Saturday Activities

Last Saturday afternoon, while picking up a package from the local courier LBC, I decided to visit the wet market where we usually go early weekend mornings and take a look at what stalls are still open.

Turns out almost all vendors are closed by 4:30 pm. The usually lively weekend market looks suddenly very sad. The place, which was teeming with people just that morning, now seems abandoned. I went to the closed stalls where we usually bought fish, meat, fruits, and roasted pork.

For reasons unclear to me, I felt particularly melancholic at the sight of the group of trees outside the venue. I usually hate the late afternoons and twilight. I do love sunsets, but for decades, I have always dreaded the "takipsilim" period. Considering reincarnation as a working theory, I always felt that maybe in a past life, I met my death at this time of day, which is probably why I brought that distant memory with me in this lifetime. But I am simply speculating.

Back inside the nearly deserted weekend market, some of the stalls selling ornamental plants were still open, though some vendors were already unavailable.

I remembered my godmother's request to buy some specific plants for her newly bought condo, so I took pictures and called her. I don't know much about plants.

She asked for a snake plant and peace lily. The pic below shows a different variety of snake plant.

She liked the spider plant below, but the vendor went out and it couldn't be sold.

Below are the two plants she eventually selected, when they were at the market and when they were inside her home. She assumed I was bringing the plants right there and then (which I didn't plan to), but the traffic level was low so I decided what the heck. Her place was about 30 minutes from mine two cities away.

She was quite happy with her plants and my visit. She cooked a lovely dinner in return.

In her condo, I was fascinated by her archangel statue decor. She's still missing Uriel to complete the four main characters.

Below, the street view from her place on the 6th floor looks nice.

Helping others even in small ways can be an avenue for one's joy. I hope I can be able to serve more people during my current tenure in this dirt ball. So happy to be alive!
