My Actifit Report Card: December 30 2023

Hey Actifitters,

Yesterday started very foggy. Sam and I went for a quick walk to see if it was better a little higher. But no, fog everywhere.

Of course, Sam still had as much fun as usual.

We continued and went even further up a bit, but again, just fog. We couldn't even see my favorite hills. So after a while, we just walked back home.

But with the weather forecast telling us it was sunny at our location, we strongly suspected we just needed to go up more and decided to go again in the Monts du Pilat. If it was indeed sunny up there, a hike would also be a good way to sweat the virus out. And we were correct. Half way up, we started to see the sun, and it was great when we got close to Cret de l'Oeillon.

We now could clearly see that dense fog we were in just minutes before.

Not sure it translates well in English, but in French, that's a Sea of clouds. With Mont Blanc and the Alps in the background.

Unlike two days before, we had plenty of time, so we walked up to the antenna first.

I didn't remember this big cross behind it. With a direct view on Mont Blanc.

I like the contrast with both of them.

We didn't stay up there too long. After a few more photos, we went back down near the parking lot, so we could go up another trail for different views.

In the afternoon, the light was obviously very different compared to two days ago just before dusk.

On the photo above, in addition to the antenna and the Rhone valley, you can see three small peaks on the bottom right. It's called Les 3 dents (the 3 teeth) obviously because of their shape. Zoomed-in with the valley still in the fog, and the Alps in the background, it's also my entry for Around The World contest:

There's a hike going there, but we chose a different one. We headed in La Jasserie direction.

The scenery changed completely as the trail went down to a forest. I guess because of the very mild winter so far, it's very green and mossy right now. It was also much less crowded, and since I'm still keeping my distance with people, that was good.

On trails, Sam has to stay on-leash. But I let him off-leash for a few minutes. He was so excited, he was just a blur!

This winter didn't see much snow to melt, but we found a couple of small streams, maybe just from rain water.

That's the only snow patch we found during the entire hike!

When we arrived at La Jasserie, we had a couple choices, but to play it safe, we just doubled back. And except for Sam finding new trails going nowhere, it was pretty much the same.

The light was already lower when we got closer to the end.

But the valley was still in the fog!

When we arrived at the parking lot, I couldn't resist going up near the antenna again. It was a bit cloudier but the pinkish colors were beautiful.

On the other side, it was almost neon orange!

Without all the side walks for photos, the hike ended up around 10km. Not bad for yet something completely unplanned. We were really glad to have spent the entire afternoon in the sun, while everybody down in the valley stayed in the fog! Like I keep saying, it's really great that my mother is still able to walk and hike like that. I really hope to be this healthy if I make it to 80...

Again, I was short a couple thousand steps for #poprzeczka, so Sam and I went running in the yard for a bit. Sam is probably becoming an athlete! But he needed his rest after all that.
