It took an own goal by the recently recalled German defender Hummels for reigning world champions France to ease past Germany in their opening clash last night.

it wasn't a classic game but after watching it, you wouldn't fancy the Germans to get out of the group stages as they failed to do at the last World Cup. I like own goals. No first goalscorer to payout AND no one actually predicted the 1-0 result! Happy days ;-)

In the other game of the night, Portugal took on Hungary and it took until the 84th minute for them to make a breakthrough with a heavily deflected goal by Raphael Guerreiro which finally broke the Hungarians brave resistance. After that, CR7 got a brace, including a penalty and the rest is now history.

But on to today and with all the first round of group games completed, we return to group A with the clash between...

After demolishing Turkey in the first game, the Italians will be full of confidence which would have been boosted further if they'd seen the Swiss' rather lacklustre performance against Wales which ended in 1-1 draw.

The Italians haven't lost a single one of their last 28 games and listening to Mancini yesterday, they aren't going to lose this one either! A win will see them qualified and through to the knockout stages.

The Swiss aren't without hope here....actually they are so...

The Small Print

In the first goalscorer competition, own goals do not count. In the correct score competition, it's the score after 90mins. Extra time and penalties do not count and the pot for each competition will roll over if there is no winner. If more than one person chooses the same first goalscorer or correct score, the prize is shared and everyone gets a little upvote! It seems I also need to add, one entry per person. Don't forget the new rule that only people with a rep of 45 or above are eligible to enter unless they have been approved. The bonus will be added to any winnings ONLY if Leeds United win and/or Man U lose and all payouts will never exceed 50% of post payout. Other bonuses paid out at my discretion.
