Football has derailed from its purpose for so long

The beautiful game of football was invented as a game of fun. A game where people engaging in it have the sole aim of fostering peace while also connecting people. Football has evolved over the years and it's easy to note why.

The ever-changing nature of humans has impacted the way the game is played. Coupled with the fact that governing bodies have been set up to oversee the affairs of the game. Also, technology has done its part in improving the sport.

Football prides itself as one popular sport that aims to connect people, races, and foster world peace. This is highlighted with the numerous tournaments aimed at bringing different people of different backgrounds and ideologies together.

Examples of such tournaments are the World cup and the confederation cup. These two tournaments involve countries from all continents on earth. While the world cup might offer a higher number of countries from a different continent to participate in it, the consideration cup only allows one country from each continent.

This competition aims to foster peace while having fun but these aims are yet to be fully actualized. One could say that some of the purposes have been thrown out of the window to accommodate new ones. The new ones on the other hand simply have nothing to do with fostering relationships instead, it's has seen the sport completely idolize as a money-making venture.

You are free to disagree with me but a recent example of this could be seen in the recently held world cup in Russia. There was some bad blood between Russia and England and yet the football did nothing to change it. The UK teams considered withdrawing from the tournament as tempers boil. Eventually, they played but no officials from any UK countries were selected to officiate any match as their safety could not be guaranteed.

If football isn't looking to mend broken bridges, then what's its new agenda?. To make money from sports is the only answer coming up. The downsides of this new agenda are seeing greed slowly creeping into the beautiful game. A recent example is the case of the corruption and money embezzlement against former FIFA president Sepp blatter and UEFA President Micheal Platini. Two apex football governing bodies corrupted by money, that begs the question of what might have been happening in the grassroots of the sports.

While winning a football game seems to be a good thing, it's not the most important. The sportsmanship and professionalism of the game are the most important. That involves playing the game right and respecting the players you are playing against. Sometimes passions for the game get into a player's heads and it reflects on how he reacts on the pitch. But there is no excuse to setting out to injure another or causing havoc.

One of the agendas of football is also to eradicate racism and so far, it has not accomplished that. Truth be told, football has done a lot in this aspect but it's still not enough. World wide education of why racism should not be in existence has been preached on countless times but even on the football pitch, racism has been exhibited in countless cases. A recent example was the case of racial abuse directed toward Webo who is the Basaksehir assistant coach in a champions league between PSG and Basaksehir. The culprit was the referee officiating the match.

Although players of both teams walked off the pitch to show displeasure in the referee's racial rant, it shows more education and awareness still needs to be done. The game of course was suspended and the referee, of course, will have blown his last Champions League game or his last football match. The gravity of the crime was heightened due to the high regard referees are held. Racism is still been experienced on a larger scale; with rivals fans of a club racially insulting players from other teams.

Violence has been seen In full display also. If the game seeks to promote unity and peace, why does endless violence exist among club fans and sometimes among clubs?. It's no secret that Tottenham's fans and arsenal are sworn enemies. They are not the only team in this as countless teams fall in these brackets. Examples are ;

  • Barcelona Fc vs Real Madrid Fc
  • Everton vs Liverpool
  • Machester United Versus Manchester City
  • Leeds United versus Manchester united.

This list is endless but I hope the point is taken. The hate and fight should be left on the football pitch as much of it could be attributed to passion but taking it beyond the game could be seen as violence. Several reported football violence cases have been springing up. Some reported cases have either been about fans burning team buses of opposing teams or sending life-threatening messages to football players.

The game is derailing from its main course and it's time all is set right once again.

Racism will never be eradicated and will take generations. I have been on the receiving end of it many times and it goes both ways. I think if you look at things objectively you can find racism everywhere. Look at the MOBO Awards that is allowed to go on for music and is racist as it only celebrates black artists. That is how pathetic things have become and eradicating the obvious is what everyone should be concentrating on and it all starts with just respecting everyone.

Wow. To be sincere, I have never looked at it from the aspect. I mean the MOBO aspect.

Also, sorry about being on the receiving end of a racist remark/abuse.

You must be strong to handle it ..but I sincerely believe racism could end in football and maybe go a long way to help correct other people way of seeing things

Remember I was in a country that had apartheid so I have seen both sides of it and why I hate it so much. We have just as much racism now but it is on the other foot and both are wrong. People need to discuss it more as everyone tends to dodge the subject because they aren't comfortable with it. I see no issue calling someone black or white as that is not racist yet these issues are making things worse and doing more damage. The real issues are not being sorted out and I don't think it ever will if I am honest.

Most times, I see blacks accusing the white folks of racism just because they are being called black.
To me sincerely, as a black man, I see no issue with it but I feel people who take this as an offense are people mostly insecure about their color.

Just looked up for what apartheid means and I must confess, a lot has to be looked into to make everyone look equal regardless of class or race.

I am not giving up hope yet on racism going into extinction

I really wish it can happen but there is too much hate on either side and can't see why or how. My son in law is black and we get on very well and have no issues with color. Both sides are looking for issues instead of trying to work out why they are looking. If something is wrong then fix it.

I second your thoughts. Solutions should be worked on instead of us constantly debating on the issue
