Africa’s electricity deprivation is mainly caused by lack of electricity grids infrastructure rather than lack of electricity generation.
A country like Ethiopia have a current electricity production of 14 billion kWh, uses only 9 billion lWh (64% and exports a minor portion to Kenya) of its electricity due to lack of infrastructure to distribute the power to other areas in the country.
Another example of Egypt which has a production capacity of 227 TWh but only consumes 167 TWh (75%) and exports portion of the surplus to neighboring countries through the Egypt-Jordan grid.
Investing in a continual grid is a MUST if African countries want to benefit from shifting consumption peaks, time zones, seasonal climates, and available power supply across the continent.
Attached is the extensive European continental grid for us to see the difference.
