Solar halo !

Nobody knows who was the first to notice it, but on Thursday, reports of an iridescent ring around the sun traveled faster than light, forcing thousands to look up at the sky. In reality, against the backdrop of a clear sky, there was a big circle of light resembling a full rainbow surrounding the sun.
The phenomena was vividly visible in southern Sri Lanka, and it appears that some people are mistaking its sudden appearance in the sky for a religious or political miracle.

A halo is an optical phenomena caused by light interacting with ice crystals hanging in the atmosphere . Halos come in a variety of shapes and sizes, from colorful or white rings to arcs and sky patches. Many of these may be seen near the Sun or Moon, while others can be found further in the sky or even in the opposite direction. The circular halo, light pillars, and sun dogs are among the most well-known halo varieties, but there are many others; some are rather frequent, while others are extremely unusual.
