Hard Work in the Gym

There is an old idea in the world of running that says that runners should not do gym or strength work, because doing so would generate a lot of muscle mass which would end up being a drag, especially when competing for a matter of body weight , how much myth and how much reality of this.

We all know and surely we have all heard from time to time, between conversations of runners this, that we should not do gym work because of the idea that this would make us gain too much muscle mass and it would become a consequence of a negative aspect to the time for our races, our competitions and things to be said, if this really happens it would be a problem for a runner who seeks to improve his personal marks, improve his times, we are going to notice that as professional runners, let's talk about long-distance runners and long-distance runners. , here we completely put aside the sprinters the 100-200 meter runners on the track who have a different physical structure, because the logic of the sport is different.

But the athletics runners, let's call it 5000 meters, 10,000 meters and talk about when we go to the street and we see runners of 10 kilometers, 21 or 42 all have a well-marked biotype that they are quite thin runners, with quite little muscle mass. So to speak, very light runners and this logically has to do with that fear that we just talked about, this of avoiding having too large a muscle mass that also makes us carry a weight that we do not want to carry while we run.

Body weight can be fat mass, as well as muscle mass what matters is that you are going to carry more or less kilos when running and that is why it is important if, for a runner not to carry unnecessary ones when we go to compete, but Attention because that is not all, it is only the beginning of this question, to understand and to remove once and for all this myth among runners, about gym work, if we have to do it or not, what we have to understand is , that one thing is muscle hypertrophy and another totally different is muscle toning.

Hypertrophy is the name given to the phenomenon of the growth in size of muscle cells, which means an increase in the size of muscle fibers and therefore of the muscle and what must be very clear is that this is not achieved in Either way simply because you do exercises in the gym, to achieve muscle hypertrophy you must necessarily do certain routines, lifting really heavy loads and you must also follow a certain diet according to that goal, otherwise hypertrophy will never be achieved muscular, you're never going to get like a bodyguard.

On the other hand, toning consists of giving your muscle fibers the necessary attention to achieve a good functioning of the muscle and this represents numerous benefits that will not only improve your physical appearance, but will also make our body work better, a An example of this is the improvement in our posture, in our posture in general, not only for running but for the day to day, to stand up, to walk to be seated, that improvement we achieve when we tone the muscles of the so-called zone of the core or nucleus that is comprised of the hip, abdomen, back and chest.

Well that's all, here I leave my mark of the day, it was a hard day, toning is important and today I resumed it after a long time.
