French Open 2021 likely to be postponed due to COVID-19 cases says Maracineanu
The French Open scheduled to kick off in May faces possiblity of been shifted following the recent rise of the coronavirus in France, Roxana Maracineanu the sports minister recently disclosed.
The country where the event is set to take place France just yesterday which on Saturday just entered their third phase of lockdown which could last middle of May according to country president Emmanuel Macron.
The event is originally scheduled to hold at Roland Garros from May 23rd to June 6th, 2021 with qualifications taking place a week prior.
Last year's edition also faced similar fate as it was shifted from original date to sometime in the autumn because of the same pandemic crises.
Maracineanu however maintained discussions are still on to see if the date can she shifted to a coincidencing time frame when all sports and major events will resume.
