We Are Alive! October 10th, 2023 Adventures in Traveling

We are now home from our adventures and we are remembering and recounting the events of the last few weeks.

In our previous thrilling episode, our bus broke down on the side of the road south of Fort Wayne Indiana, about 3.5 hours into our trip. With an additional 10 hours of driving, and with a bus missing it's serpentine belt, we were loosing precious time every minute we were not traveling.

Our tow truck driver took us back to his shop, which was more like a complex with farm equipment, heavy machinery and many projects ongoing. He was tired, but dedicated to helping us in our situation.

After unhitching the bus from his tow truck, his assistant powered up the bus just long enough to move it to the garage. He turned it off before overheating and they immediately opened the hood and began inspecting.

Sure enough, the belt was shredded into spaghetti. He pulled the strands off the engine, wrapped around the fan and all over the place.

While we were standing there, we suddenly heard the noise of liquid splashing onto the ground. Oh no, now what?

We look under the engine and a pool of coolant was puddling. They inspected closer to see where it was coming from. It was the radiator! He pulled it out and we discovered just how filthy it was! It was barely functioning at all!

The underside of the radiator and the area of the engine around it was soaked with coolant. The radiator had a crack in the plastic from age. When it was under pressure, fluid would "mist" all the engine parts around it.

When the system became so hot, it cracked it to the point where it just flowed out on to the ground.

It didn't look like a terrible crack, but it was not repairable. The radiator needed to be replaced. They looked online for parts and found the belt and radiator, but it wouldn't be available until the next day.

So now what? I told the man that we can sleep in the bus if we re-arrange the seats and set up double-cots. The kind man offered for us and our family to stay at his complex overnight, but not only that! He offered us use of his bathrooms, showers and even a kitchen!

Not exactly the Ritz, but it'll do just fine! We brought the larger items outside of the bus, set up a table and camp stove to heat up diner and set up the cots.

It was a very unexpected turn of events. We were "camping" in our bus outside a repair shop. The man said he would leave the lot unlocked for the night if we needed to go somewhere and that he would leave the keys in his car for us - wow! If there was some medical emergency, we would have the means of traveling.

It was cold and rainy, but we dressed warm and kept our spirits up. We slept very deeply, even with all the unusual sounds outside the bus. This was the first day of our adventure and already, things were going very differently than expected. But we were dry and warm and safe.

We also felt confident that the bus would be fixed quickly and we'll be back on the road again soon. Replace and install the radiator, install a new serpentine belt and we'll be back in business. What will this cost? How will we afford this and the fuel expense to drive to Arkansas? We will have to think about these questions and make a decision the next day.

It appears we've had a change of plans. To be further continued...

Teach Your Children Liberty from Sin

We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.

No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13

Teach Your children Liberty from Tyranny

Second to this is the principle of self-determination and freedom, lest we loose the ability to teach our children the first principle in future generations.

Our children read the Tuttle Twin books, specifically to learn libertarian principles, which most people learn later in life. These books are useful for our family, and yours, to teach children concepts that seem complicated, but are made simple in these books. I am an affiliate for Libertas Publishing, your purchase will help our family grow financially.

Bank Bailout Special!

It's happening, folks. The banks are going under! To educate our children about what is going on, there is a "Bank Bailout Book Bonanza" going on with the Tuttle Twins! Use coupon code FORTY for 40% off your purchase! Check out the books here.

"Politicians like problems because they can claim to have solutions... but their solutions often create even more problems."
