We Are Alive! November 5th, 2023 Making Applesauce
We have an increasing number of apples piling up, both from our tree and from the orchard a few weeks back. We're cooking them down so we can mill them into apple sauce.
The little green apples are from our tree in the backyard.
Our family really enjoys apple sauce and we can go through a jar per night, so we make as many as we can, usually around 12 jars. It takes a lot of apples, but we usually make it.

What does an Apple sauce taste like?
Imagine apples heated and smooshed, with no seeds or skins or stems. It's so soft you could eat it with a straw, tastes like cooked apples.

It's smooth and tastes like cooked apples, but it's usually served cold. It's good by itself, or on top of yogurt or cottage cheese.

Yes, apples sauce in cans will last for several years, but it never lasts more than a few months since we give a lot away and eat it quickly.

Very cool! I have never made apple sauce and have no idea how to do it! Food storage is important, you never know when you'll need it. I have a year supply of water in and food in my home, and they call me paranoid...
It's crazy simple if you have a sauce maker. Just cut up whole apples and cook them down until they are soft, then scoop the mushy apples into the mill and the apples sauce flows down like an apple water fall and the solids (skins, stems, seeds) go out the other side.
Never paranoid to be prepared, it's when people find themselves unprepared that things become difficult.
