We Are Alive! December 21, 2023 Fixed the Dryer!

Earlier in the week, my wife informed me that the dryer was spinning, but not heating up. We opened the hatch, turned on the dryer and discovered that there was no gas burning. I felt around and found a piece of the igniter had broken off.

After disassembling the dryer, I removed the broken igniter and found a replacement online. It was a $16 part, which is cheap to fix a dryer, but expensive for such a small part.

We've had this dryer for at least 10 years, and it was already 15 years old when we got it. So this igniter has done it's job many many times before needing to be replaced.

The new igniter is really sparkly, I don't know what it's made of, but it's beautiful.

The broken one really looks worn, it's good that we have a new one for another 15 years of service!

The new igniter was installed and the dryer put back together... then it's the moment of truth!

This cylinder contains the gas flame which jets out from the tube. The igniter glows red-hot for about 25 seconds before a stream of natural gas is released and ignited, heating the tube and by extension the rotating drum above it and the cloths in the drum.

It's really amazing watching the darkness light up from the glow of the igniter, then after half a minute or so, the gas igniting and burning inside the dryer. What an amazing contraption.

Seeing the igniter glowing and hearing the flame igniting and burning was very satisfying. Wooosh!

Teach Your Children Liberty from Sin

We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.

No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13

Teach Your children Liberty from Tyranny

Second to this is the principle of self-determination and freedom, lest we loose the ability to teach our children the first principle in future generations.

Our children read the Tuttle Twin books, specifically to learn libertarian principles, which most people learn later in life. These books are useful for our family, and yours, to teach children concepts that seem complicated, but are made simple in these books. I am an affiliate for Libertas Publishing, your purchase will help our family grow financially.

Bank Bailout Special!

It's happening, folks. The banks are going under! To educate our children about what is going on, there is a "Bank Bailout Book Bonanza" going on with the Tuttle Twins! Use coupon code FORTY for 40% off your purchase! Check out the books here.

Fantastic to see that you managed to fix your dryer Benjamin, though I have to admit I have never seen one using natural gas before, enjoy your dry clothes and stay awesome.

I didn't know how it worked either, until I had to fix it! It's a fairly simple design, although I was surprised to see the (partially) open flame that was drying our cloths. Thanks for featuring my post.

That's a long time you got the service from that dryer. It was of good quality.

I hope that the new one also works similarly.

Yes, I hear they don't make them like they used to. We hope to continue using this dryer as long as we can. With a family of 8, it gets a lot of use!

Nice work. You saved yourself a ton in labor costs. One of my best friends does appliance repair for a living.

Wow! That is really impressive. A job well done. Have you had prior training fixing machines like that before?

No training, unless we are counting Youtube. !LOLZ I repaired the washing machine once that required me to replace some parts, and I replaced the belt on the drier years ago. Other then these projects, no. This is new to me.

These things that happen are very useful and need to be done within a few days so it is very important to get them right and you have worked hard to get it right.

you have worked hard to get it right

Thanks, the one thing I learned is always make things easier by disassembling the dryer and don't try repairing parts through a small hole!

Hang on to your dryer as long as you can get parts for it. My husband's nephew has an appliance repair shop and he says all of the new ones are junk, this goes for washers and dishwashers, too.
