We Are Alive! August 6th, 2024 And on the Ballot!
It's election day! While many people have already voted, either early or by absentee ballot, we are visiting the polls today. I got a copy of our ballot ahead of time to pre-select who we'll vote for. Nothing worse than standing at the poll asking "who is this?"
Two people I do know who are on the ballot, is myself and my wife!
We are running as "Delegate to County Convention". Not exactly a high-level position, actually as low on the rung as can be. We only appear on a few hundred ballots, but still! How fantastic is it to be a political option for people to vote for.
There are three positions and three candidates, so unless hundreds of write-ins appear, all three names will "win" this position.
The Trickiest Choice on The Ballot
This is a primary election, so when voting as (what I like to call) "team red" we only vote among the red candidates.
Selecting which candidate would be the best to run for US Senator is tricky. It comes down to either Mike Rogers or Justin Amash.
Justin Amash
My instinct is to vote for Justin, as he is libertarian. His voting record is (mostly) constitutional. My issue is that he voted to impeach DT (which I believe was unjustified political persecution) and voted to remove the US motto "In God We Trust". Some may say that these shouldn't disqualify him, but for me these are both big issues. He votes his conscious, which is good, however his potential dissent could cause political trouble in a critical time in our nation. He buys into the lies of "team blue" more than I like. But ultimately, his views line up most closely with mine. He is as he says 100% pro life (which is rare for a libertarian) and he is 100% anti-war, which are both very attractive to me. But is he disqualified from my vote?
Mike Rogers
My instinct is to NOT vote for Mike Rogers. He's as far opposite Justin as can be. He's big gov all the way, he's ok with funding the existing surveillance state (boo!). He was endorsed by DT, but that's not critical for me. He would vote in conformity with the majority of team red (for better or for worse). He's running on economic policy, anti-communist China policies and on the border crisis. He's also a "law and order" guy, which sounds good, but can have very negative effects as well. He's not quite a "neo-con", but he's too close for my comfort. But does this disqualify him from my vote?
Decision Time
Should I vote my instincts, or should I vote for political expedience?
If I vote Justin, the hands off libertarian candidate (endorsed by Ron Paul), I would feel remorse by selecting a candidate who voted to remove acknowledging the Most High from our nation. I also never know if he may dissent in a vote where he is needed. He also may have lower support to win against the BLUE in November. A vote for him may result in no red-team at all. But still...
If I vote Mike, the big gov candidate, I would regret supporting the very philosophy I oppose, who would join in any "team red" expansion of power and authority. He might be the safer choice, if team red goes a better direction, although it would encourage more of the same old tired policies. It could be argued it's better than blue policies, but is that enough? Do we really want more of the same? He has a lot of support and funding, and has the best odds of preventing a BLUE from taking that position in November, so politically speaking he would be the best choice.
These are things that I consider when debating between these candidates. Perhaps this is an instance where leaving it blank might be the best option.

Bless the Most High!
Teach Your Children Liberty from Sin
We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.
No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13
Teach Your children Liberty from Tyranny
Second to this is the principle of self-determination and freedom, lest we loose the ability to teach our children the first principle in future generations.
Our children read the Tuttle Twin books, specifically to learn libertarian principles, which most people learn later in life. These books are useful for our family, and yours, to teach children concepts that seem complicated, but are made simple in these books. I am an affiliate for Libertas Publishing, your purchase will help our family grow financially.

So cool. I knew him when...
It does look like a tough decision! At least you're informed on the matter and can make an informed decision.
Ha, you knew me when I only had four children! :-)
Mike Rogers cleaned house and Justin Amash didn't stand a chance. Goes to show what Michigan thinks of libertarians.
