Modern Silver Coinage: 1999 Silver Proof Set

Modern silver coinage still exists! It's not minted as change, but as collectors items. The dime and half-dollar coins in this set are 90% silver and 10% copper, just as coinage has been through most of US history.

All five quarters are also 90% silver, each depicting a different state.

It's good to see that silver coinage isn't completely gone, it's just tucked away in people's private collections, pawn shops, coin stores and other various places.

Will these ever be put back into circulation? Very unlikely, but we never know.

Silver proof sets are awesome, that one is a great year! One would hope they wouldn't ever removed from the protective cases, but some people out there don't understand why they are in there I suppose!

I was fortunate to win a similar set of these silver quarters from a YouTube Stacker SilverHustlling13's guessing contest some years ago. A 2003 proof set of Illinois, Alabama, Maine, Missouri & Arkansas quarters.
