Our iPad was dropped. It was an accident, but it shattered the screen so badly, it was almost unusable. It is not a new iPad, it's tempting to throw this one away and purchase a new one, but other than the screen, it's perfectly fine! Let's fix this!

My industrious wife purchased a new screen kit, along with a heat gun. Together they cost around $40. Already much better price than a new iPad!

The kit includes an "opening tool" a small pry bar, small screw driver, tweezers and a couple of guitar picks... just in case we come across any guitars in our iPad. They are mysterious devices, we never can tell what we will find inside. Best to be prepared.

We used the heat gun to soften the adhesive and carefully removed the cracked screen. Also carefully removed the old adhesive, as the new screen has fresh adhesive included.

The iPad was unplugged and freed from the broken glass.

It was a happy moment, as everything was progressing slower than expected. And the parts are so tiny and delicate!

You almost need a magnifying glass just to deal with these tiny screws!

Another big moment was when the new screen was plugged in and reattached, we pushed the power button to see if it works. It did! You can see the look of relief on my wife's face!

Once we put the case back on, we had a functioning iPad again! We discovered later that the home button isn't consistently working, so we have that challenge now.

Even if we only get a limited amount of extra time from this iPad, it's worth the $40 and it's worth the experience we gained from doing this!

Next it's time for HIVE to green-bar, so we can afford a new iPad! :-)
