2007 Presidential Proofs

Known as the "Golden Dollar", these presidential coins have the likeness of the first four US presidents. These are the men who helped bring about the constitutional republic of the United States of America.

The "proof" technique of creating a mirror finish and printing an image on top is a modern method quickly producing high-quality proofs. Given the grain, I would suppose that lasers were used to etch the image onto the mirror surface.

John Adams has a smudge on his eyebrow, thankfully it's on the packaging, not the coin!

Jefferson is on the US nickel, but he's also on this one dollar coin too!

Ol' James is looking sort of unhappy about the situation in the US today.

I'm not a big fan of the reverse of this coin, it looks to me like play money or gaming tokens. This is the only US coin with the "$" on it.

Gold?

Although these coins appear to be gold, they are actually 100% copper with a 77% copper clad on the outside. The overall coin is 88.5% copper. The balance is 6% zinc, 3.5% magnesium and 2% nickel.

The overall "melt" value of these "golden dollars" is actually $0.07 each! About the same "melt" value of three US copper pennies! In terms of metal, three copper pennies = $1 US dollar coin.

The coins were designed to imitate a golden coin, indicating the "good as gold" value of the USD. But like most things, it's an imitation gold coin, with very little metal value at all! Nowhere in the packaging is the word "gold" used, but at a glance at these coins, that is the word many people will think.

With just a little research the truth can be discovered (it's not really a secret) but if an average citizen found one of these in their change, they would believe it's worth at LEAST a dollar. Pawn shop owners have disappointed many excited sellers when they try selling these expecting a big payday.

Proof Premium

Even if they are not gold, proof coins like these are worth considerably more than a dollar, usually selling for $2.50 - $3.00 each. Not bad!

This particular set I bought at a coin dealer for $5, which I knew was a very good price, only $0.25 over face value for each coin. The packaging wasn't in perfect condition, but the coins are pristine.

Do you have any proof presidential coins?

Teach Your Children Liberty from Sin

We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.

No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13

Teach Your children Liberty from Tyranny

Second to this is the principle of self-determination and freedom, lest we loose the ability to teach our children the first principle in future generations. Our children read the Tuttle Twin books, specifically to learn libertarian principles, which most people learn later in life. These books are useful for our family, and yours, to teach children concepts that seem complicated, but are made simple in these books. I am an affiliate for Libertas Publishing, your purchase will help our family grow financially.

Use coupon code FORTY for 40% off your purchase! Check out the books here.

Yes, that's by design. Even though the mint doesn't claim they're gold, the golden color says it all.

I used to have a full set with all mints and varients but traded it for some silver. Still wish I would have kept them just for the memories of trying to get them all.
