Life in the Star Trek Future 2265-2380
After watching this YouTube video by Lore Reloaded I think I could tolerate the "oppression" of Star Trek's Federation. The better alternative I think is to work toward a post-scarcity in which virtually everything is open source. Leaving something like universal tranlators a black box technology in which the government controls leads to the kinds of control through language the video describes. Certain things like warp cores are like modern day nuclear fission reactors in which people other than David Hahn don't build but the general underlying technology is available to the public. Any technology that can be open sourced should be open source. In most cases code that is hidden should be suspect.

Hahaha.
Code that's hidden is always suspect.
After all, it was hidden for a purpose.
