The 2016 Bitfinex Hack
You've probably been seeing this reported in the news. I found this entertaining narrative video about the 2016 Bitfinex hack and how millions in BTC (which appreciated into billions) was moved around.
Imagine if competent people who were patient enough for a long game were involved. I brought this up last year in a post about an Alfred Hitchcock Presents story in which a guy embezzled his employer's money. While the guy was spending his time in prison the embezzled money that was "missing" was really secretly invested and earning interest.
The Bitfinex theft could have been the modern day retelling of that old story from a black and white TV series.
I guess it's true that crime never pays. Unless you're D.B. Cooper. Or one of the bankers involved in the 2008 bailout. Or generally if you are in politics I guess.
