Manchester United 5-4 Olympique Lyon

This was an Europa League game, and as such not really up there in my way of looking at football. But it was the only game on this afternoon so it is what I watched. And I must say this game amazed me. Know this, I do not Like Manchester United at all and I do not follow French football so I was completely neutral.

I knew the first game finished 2-2 with Lyon scoring the tie goal in the last overtime minute, so I figured the game would be easy for Manchester United. And it started out looking that way, United scored a quite early goal and looked very confident. Lyon of course went all out to get the equalizer but Onana stopped them from achieving much. And just when the first half was finishing MU scored their second goal, giving them a comfortable lead for the second half.

It seemed things would all go United's way, Onana seemed invincible and United looked like a team that was on its way to win. Well, I was called around the 25 minute of the game and had to go out. I came back 15 minutes later and the game was tied. i don't know what happened but MU had bottled it. I mean in the first minutes of this second half they could have scored two or three goals.

The game went to an extra 30 minutes with Lyon down one man, Tolisso was red carded because of a foul, he tripped Yoro (I think) from behind and was given a yellow, his second of the game. I have read a lot of comments about this, but I do think it was intentional and he was deservedly sent off. So Lyon played the extra 30 minutes with ten men.

You would think this would be in United's favor, but before I even knew it they were down 2-4. Incredible. And more incredible was their comeback, they scored three goals in seven minutes, a Bruno Fernandez penalty, a Mainoo goal and then Maguire's winner. This last goal was also commented by many as a foul, I did not see a foul.

So you see I think Manchester won the game legally no referee help. But both teams have to have some big thoughts about this game, you know two professional teams, two top level teams, can't manage to control a game they are winning by two goals. They not only give up their leads but also manage to be losing the game, especially I think Lyon, who lost the game in the last seven minutes. yes, they had one man less but that is a scenario I am sure is worked in their every day training.

No wonder neither of these two teams are tops in their respective leagues, too slack. but they did give us a magnificent game.
