Exploring the world of Non Fungible Tokens

image.png
NFT or Non-fungible token is a term that I see more often nowadays. NFT’s are used as a proof of digital ownership and for verifiable digital scarcity. NFT’s have the possibility to be exchanged between different platforms.
NFTs are often used for crypto art to prove authenticity and ownership, but also in gaming or for collectibles.

Authenticity, scarcity and ownership.

Each NFT is unique. Although there can be more versions of a certain NFT, they are always unique.
An NFT is an asset on a blockchain. Through the blockchain you can track down the ownership of the NFT. NFT’s change from owner by transferring it, just like you do with cryptocurrencies. Often there are markets where NFT’s can be bought and sold.
The scarcity and popularity determine the price of an NFT.

Collectibles

Here’s an example of one of the NFT’s I received. This one is a collectible.
You can see it has a name, an unique ID and an owner (my Wax Wallet).
I’ve received #25 of 31 versions minted.

Gaming

NFT’s are also used a lot in gaming nowadays. One of the first hyped NFT games was Cryptokitties. In this Ethereum blockchain game you can purchase, collect, breed and sell virtual cats. The most expensive one; CryptoKitties' Dragon costs about 600 ETH, or over $390,000.
In other games you can actually do something with your NFT. Splinterlands is a good example of that. The cards on this game have certain abilities you can use in the game. The cards with the best abilities are the most expensive. They are also the most rare cards.
In most games there is a market where you can buy or sell NFT’s.

Sorare

One of the games I’ve been playing recently is Sorare. Sorare is a Fantasy Football game that has created NFT’s from famous football players.
You can use the player cards you own to select in a team that can gain points for you in a league. Players can score points when they score a goal, give an assist etc. and lose points for cards and conceding goals etc.
The cards of the players that score well are the most expensive on the games market, so if you want to end up high in the rankings you either have to invest a lot of money or have a bit of luck.
Cards start around a couple of euro’s (in ETH) up to hundreds for the best players.

But there’s another way to earn money in this game. If you buy players that are going to perform well, they increase in price and you can sell them with a profit.
And this is what I have done. I’ve bought some cheap players on the market from which I think they will increase in price.
If they do I might sell them on the market to buy new players.
If you want to check out Sorare yourself; here’s my referral link.

Alien Worlds

Another game that involves NFT’s is Alien Worlds. In this game you need to mine on planets. When mining you have a chance of finding NFT’s. You can find mining gear, weapons, avatars and minions. You can use the mining gear to improve your mining. I recently mined a large explosive NFT which I use now. This explosive sells at the market for $10.00.
Later on the arena will open and then the weapons and minions can be used too.

Art and photography

NFT’s are also used to sell art and photography. Art can be sold via NFTShowroom (https://nftshowroom.com/gallery)
You have to apply as an artist to be able to sell your art on the website. When you put something on the market you can select a price and the number of copies you would like to sell. I’m not an artist, so I have no experience with this site.

Lensy (https://lensy.io/) is a site similar to NFTShowroom, but then for selling photographs. I’m into photography, but I haven’t put any of my photographs for sale yet. I know @katerinaramm just started using this site (check her photo of driftwood: https://lensy.io/gallery/katerinaramm_driftwood_lonely-driftwood-at-the-beach-during-sunset), so I'm curious what her experience with this site will be.
I might give it a shot myself and try to sell some of my images in high resolution without a watermark.
