Lionel Messi was back in the starting line-up when the French big club was visited by the English champions from Manchester City with the Argentine's former coach, Pep Guardiola, in the lead.

In the Giants' match, it was the home team that came out best from the start. Kylian Mbappé was played free on the right side by Lionel Messi, and the Frenchman found Neymar inside in front of goal. The Brazilian did not hit the ball at all, but Idrissa Gueye did in return, when after a small move he clapped the ball up in the goal corner and made it 1-0 after ten minutes of play.

However, the English guests were really good in the match, and a quarter of an hour later they should have equalized. Kevin De Bruyne found Raheem Sterling with a great cross, but the Englishmen's header took the crossbar. The return, however, smoked right down at the feet of Bernardo Silva, who from less than five meters and with an empty goal managed to send his finish on the crossbar.

Both teams took turns having periods on the ball, but in the second half of the first half there was more and more Manchester City on the affair. In the home team's goal stood Gianluigi Donnarumma however and the Italian national team goalkeeper took care of everything that came his way. Shortly before the break, he also delivered a good save on Ruben Dias' header attempt from close range.

Thus, the home team could go to the break with a lead.

Manchester City continued where they left off, and after ten minutes in the second half, De Bruyne again tested Donnarumma in the home team's goal, but again the Italian took care of the attempt with a good foot parade.

However, PSG could still play their way to opportunities, and after 65 minutes Neymar got a big one of its kind. He got relatively free into the box in the middle of the pitch, but he took a move too much, so Kyle Walker reached across and forced Neymar to a bad finish that went into the side netting.

After 73 minutes, however, the decision had to fall, and it was Lionel Messi who, in a fantastic way, made it 2-0. The Argentine played a one-two with Mbappé, and then he curled it up in the goal corner and scored his first goal in the PSG shirt.

Messi's goal was also the last of the match, and the French could therefore celebrate a nice 2-0 victory.

PSG thus pass Manchester City in first place in Group A before their next two showdowns against RB Leipzig. The English have to settle for an instant third place before their matches against Belgian Club Brugge.
