On Wednesday, Everton were able to reveal that Colombian James Rodrigues switched to Al-Rayyan SC from Qatar. The 30-year-old midfielder came to Everton last summer, but injuries and form have meant he never broke through in the Premier League. His departure leaves both a lot of room in Everton's salary budget but also a creative gap to be filled in midfield.

According to the local media, Liverpool Echo, Everton manager Rafael Benitez has exposed Dutchman Donny van de Beek to take over for James at Everton. The club tried in the summer transfer window to lure the former Ajax player to, however, without success.

Until January, when the winter transfer window opens, however, Everton will make another attempt to pick up van de Beek. The Dutchman has a long way to go before playing time at Manchester United and does not seem to be part of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær's plans.
