A Witch in My Garden: Dragonfly Scratcher Vigilante Brown - Dythemis Sterilis

avatar

Hello Dear Witches...!

In order to get rid of the laziness I had left over from last week, today in addition to washing all the dirty clothes, before beginning my tasks I dedicated myself to meditating for a while, I had a couple of weeks that I didn't, and once my meditation was finished, I dedicated myself to reviewing my small garden, to see that "bugs" were there, the surprise was pleasing the truth, there she was calm and peaceful, hunting her food.

A Brown Vigilant Rayon Dragonfly (Dythemis Sterilis), as its name suggests, was watching some flies that would become its food. I really love dragonflies, I have always loved them, I relate them with fairies (since I was a child I do), and although this has not been one of the most beautiful specimens I have had the opportunity to see, if it is the best I could photograph, because they are not model girls who stay posing to take pictures with a cell phone, and much less tolerate so much approach.

Also called Devil's Horses, because many people don't know the difference between one insect and another, and basically identify themselves by their eyes, something that is quite difficult to do when they are flying, and in the same way they don't usually get very close to us. Dragonflies have their eyes on the front of their heads, while devil's horses have them on their sides, very similar to those of a fly. Another feature that differentiates them are the wings, and usually we can see this when we find them at rest, the dragonfly keeps them open as you can see in the photographs, while the dragonfly picks them up.

Both insects are bio-control agents or ecological regulators, they are predators, that go after flies and mosquitoes that usually attack humans and can cause serious diseases such as dengue and its mutations, another reason to continue loving these small beauties of nature.

It is easy to find them near rivers, streams, ponds and puddles, because their nymphs (babies) are aquatic, which calls my attention because near my house there is nothing like this, so finding her there, so peaceful and calm, was a sign that my meditation was productive and I was in that moment calm and calm as my little friend, and I say I was, because after that and My Mathias woke up and ended the peace hahaha.

Our spiritual peace is always reflected in our natural environment!

Absolutely stunning @fmbs25

Great job with the close-ups. Not an easy thing to accomplish. The Dragonfly is awesome. So many colours and facets. There's a lot going on there.

Thanks for sharing.

You captured some great shots! We often get dragonflies in our garden, but I've never been able to get up close enough to get a decent shot with my phone. There really is something magical about them. I love that the visit came after such a peaceful moment, as well. A good reminder for me to get some of my own mindful time today...

Great shots of one of my favorite insects. Bioregulators huh? I never heard that, but I am grateful for what they do.

I've never known much about dragonflies, (I haven't heard of devil's horses before), but I never wondered about what they eat. I'm kind of surprised that they eat insects! Where I grew up we called them "snake-feeders," but I have no idea why they were called that, lol.

Looks like that dragonfly is trying to medicating. Always so strange looking at their eyes. Love the detail you were able to catch in the wings they are beautiful and delicate.

Interesting to learn about Devil's Horses, never heard of that, learn something new everyday @fmbs25.

Lovely photography with dragon flies, we have many over here, sadly they never sit for long nor pose, well done on capturing them.
