A Witch in my Garden: An Albino Cockroach? [EN] // Una Bruja en mi Jardín: ¿Una Cucaracha Albina? [ES]
There are two things we can't deny about cockroaches, the first is that they are really disgusting, and the second is that they are equally or even more fascinating, my son is terrified of them, and every time he finds one in the yard or somewhere he immediately shouts "MOMMY KILLS HER", and that is my first reaction when I see them. Well, this morning while we were in the garden he called me to see a cockroach, but unlike other times, before he asked me to kill it, he told me, "Look mom, this cockroach is white.
Certainly not the first albino cockroach I've seen in my life, but certainly this was the biggest, and I say was, because it was being devoured by carnivorous red ants, so I left it suffering there while it was slowly being killed. And no, I didn't feel any remorse, because I really suffer when I see one of these in or near my house. Now, my question and what led me to invoke St. Google was, what kind of cockroach is this? My favorite saint's answer was more than frightening. White or albino cockroaches don't really exist, or on the contrary, all cockroaches when they reach adulthood, change or molt their skin or exoskeleton, which is why their entire body except for their eyes become white or cream colored.
As you can see, only the eyes continue to retain their unpleasant dark color, and only a few parts of the legs are brown, but this is only for 12 hours, since after this time they have their horrible brown color again. The white color of the cockroaches indicates danger, since they have reached their stage of sexual maturity at this point, which means that more cockroaches will come very soon, so these ants were doing me a great favor by ending the life of this "tender" cockroach.
Cockroaches have survived so much and still continue on our planet, proving that they are a truly strong species. We spend liters and liters of pesticides to kill them but they still keep appearing, which denotes two things, first their ability to evolve and adapt to conditions and second, their high capacity and speed to reproduce, and this undoubtedly makes them insects although disgusting, fascinating.

Hay dos cosas que no podemos negar de las cucarachas, la primera es que son realmente asquerosas, y la segunda es que son igual o incluso más fascinantes, mi hijo les tiene pavor, y cada vez que encuentra una en el patio o en algún sitio de inmediato me dice a gritos "MAMÁ MATALA", y es que esa es mi primera reacción cuando las veo. Pues bien, esta mañana mientras estábamos en el jardín me llamo para que viera una cucaracha, pero a diferencia de otras veces, antes de pedirme que la matara, me dijo, "Mira mamá, esta cucaracha es blanca".
Ciertamente no es la primera cucaracha albina que he visto en mi vida, pero sin duda esta era la más grande, y digo era, pues se la estaban devorando las hormigas rojas carnívoras, así que la deje sufriendo allí mientras era asesinada lentamente. Y no, no sentí ningún remordimiento, pues yo realmente sufro cuando veo una de estas en mi casa o cerca de ella. Ahora bien, mi pregunta y lo que me llevo a invocar a San Google fue, ¿Qué clase de cucaracha es esta? La respuesta de mi santo predilecto fue más que aterradora. Las cucarachas blancas o albinas, realmente no existen, o por el contrario, todas las cucarachas al llegar a su edad adulta, cambian o mudan la piel o exoesqueleto, motivo por el cual todo su cuerpo exceptuando los ojos se tornan de color blanco o color crema.
Como pueden observar apenas sus ojos continúan conservando su desagradable color oscuro, y apenas mínimas partes de las patas tienen ese color marrón, pero esto es solamente por espacio de 12 horas, ya que luego de este tiempo nuevamente tienen su horrible color marrón. El color blanco de las cucarachas indica peligro, pues han alcanzado en este punto su etapa de madurez sexual lo que quiere decir que vendrán muy pronto más cucarachas, así que estas hormigas estaban haciéndome un gran favor acabando con la vida de esta "tierna" cucaracha.
Las cucarachas han sobrevivido a tanto y aun continúan en nuestro planeta, demostrando que son una especie verdaderamente fuerte. Gastamos litros y litros de plaguicidas para acabar con ellas pero aun así continúan apareciendo, lo que denota dos cosas, en primera su capacidad para evolucionar y adaptarse a las condiciones y segundo, su alta capacidad y rapidez para reproducirse, y esto sin duda alguna los hace insectos aunque asquerosos, fascinantes.

La verdad es que son de los que mas asco me dan, y por lo general no es que me asusten, es que siempre salen de donde menos uno se lo espera!
