Plumbing Issues During Some Renovation

Looks like we had some plumbing issues this week after removing the sink in our bathroom. I’ve only done plumbing once in my life, so I had to watch some videos to help me learn a thing or two.

Last weekend, my mother and I removed the sink and cabinet in the bathroom so that we could replace it and paint the bathroom a different color. Originally, the color was peach-ish, but now we just went with plain old white. The removal of the sink was very easy and the plumbing had no issues. We thought it would be nice and simple, but of course, luck wasn’t on our side.

Earlier today, one of the valves connected to the CPVC pipe somehow broke. My theory is that the pressure going into the valve was just too much to handle, so the valve gave out. The valve is green and rusted up in some places – I’d say it’s at least 15 years old. It seems as though the valve cannot close all the way. Turning off the main water line for the house was the only solution. I tried using duct tape on the valve to see if we could contain the water. It worked in slowing the amount of water spewing out, but not enough to keep the main water line on overnight.

This all happened in the afternoon, but we didn’t have time to prioritize the plumbing. We’re just going to call it a night and work on it tomorrow after work. It's a bummer, but at least I'm learning something new.
