Love... Hate: The Porn Industry

I've got a love-hate relationship with the porn industry. Most of my opinion is positive of the industry, not including the exploitative tactics against performers. Now my negative views are not based in deep ideals of conservatism, but the industry can be problematic, so having an unbiased and moral perspective can help.

First and foremost, if you're a consenting adult, then do as you please so long as it doesn't affect me directly or my money. If you want to be involved in the porn industry from hardcore to OnlyFans and free Twitter Nip Pics then that's on you. I'm also not against working in the industry myself (on the administrative or media management side, not performing). With that being said, it's a complicated industry.

The main positives of the industry is that people will get their sexual satisfaction. Lustful thoughts will be quelled, even if its for a short time. Other than prostitution, the pornography industry can help bolster a local economy or even a regional one. For people with not many skills, they can enter the industry even as amateurs and earn from content creation. Of course, they can choose less explicit content to create, but wealth generation can come in many forms.

The negative aspects of the industry are pretty straightforward. The first major problem is that it normalizes debauchery and perverted acts, especially against women. The industry can be very abusive and exploitative against young women. Young women are generally emotionally abused or are in vulnerable positions when they're influenced to produce this kind of content, as far as professional pornography goes. When it comes to the OnlyFans artists, many of these 'creators' do it under the guise that not many people will find out, or not many people will know. They find solace in the assumptions that their private information won't be leaked when they're taking faceless selfies. It's an optimism bias that will shatter quickly when their closest family members find out.

The issue isn't really much of morality. The conservatives will argue that point all day long, but I think there can be real solutions to this issue. Pornography is an industry that isn't going to go away any time soon, so there has to be ways where we can see the good in the industry and the bad. There can be ways to deter abuse in the industry while protecting the youth from watching it and protecting performers from abusers.
