Random Thought of the Day - Daily Contest #21 - Why do we dream?

Hey folks. How is everyone doing.

So today I am asking the question - Why do we dream?

Here are some scientific explanations.

Quote of the Day

“There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance." - John Lennon

I have started this competition in the hope that this will prove to be a fun and interesting way to get people to interact and engage with each other here on #proofofbrain

It could be about anything really. Ranging from a memorable quote to a story or maybe just a random question about life itself. Literally any subject is open for discussion but I will try and not let it get too weird !

You are also welcome to talk about any other subject you like.

To enter the competition you simply have to make any type of comment on this post and I will do a daily random draw for 3 lucky winners.

You are not required to Upvote, Re-Blog or Follow but it would be nice.

Prizes

1st Place = 5 POB + 1 Upvote

I think a lucid dream is just a dream that we remember when we wake up. Mosquitoes are the creators of lucid dreams. Now matter how deep a sleep I am in the buzzing of a mosquito is just faint enough not to wake me up. It is like a lullaby of angels until it comes closer and closer to my ear. At this point my inner self senses danger somewhere in the body. The dream sequence changes from lovely and beautiful to danger and action. I also sense that my bladder is full and the dream is filled with water. The mosquito then decides to take its attack. The first bite does not wake me up but the dream becomes more violent. I am in hot pursuit. The mosquito takes a three second retreat. In the dream world I am safe for hours and enjoying another lullaby. The mosquito gears up for one final attack at the face. The dream world is serious of flashing lights as a shot is fired toward my head. I don't know what to do. I can't run. I can't hide.

I wake up and slap that bloody thing.

Thanks a lot! And thanks @elricmoonslayer for organizing! Funny today's topic is dreaming. I just woke up from this super intense dream about being part of a tax fraud gang haha. According to my partner I was even talking in my sleep. I find sleep and dreams fascinating: people who sleep poorly or hardly dream have severe health problems. Insomnia is one of the worst things your body can go through. So we need dreams, the theory is to digest all the things that happen to us and give them a proper place in our memories. But I always wonder when I have a funky dream what the hell that says about my day or about how I feel at that time. I'm pretty sure I am not currently involved in a tax fraud scheme haha.
What I also find interesting is how we remember dreams. I for example always remember mine. For years I even wrote them down and when I read them back most of them I still remember. My partner however almost never remembers his dreams, not even a vague memory. According to science this depends on where in your sleep cycle you wake up. The closer to the dream stage you wake up, the more you remember.
About lucid dreaming I can't say that I have ever experienced that. Has anyone here ever had it? Apparently you can train it and be more conscious in your dreams. I always wonder if that is truly the case or if it is just about tricking the brain into thinking its awake during the dream. Human perception and consciousness is great at fooling itself and in making wishful thinking seem true... But would love to hear someones experiences with it!

Sounds like a crazy dream 😀 I have experienced lucid dreaming when I was younger but not for a long time now.

Definitely I won't be saying much about this topic, honestly I must say I don't really know much about this and the moment I saw this I logout of the platform and for a while I was thinking about what brought about something like this ,in which I want to believe it is a very good one for the community and I have to Google search and read about it but now I won't be saying much, cause I have to digest what I read about it google.
Thanks for taking me through a personal class today you have really Open my eye,,,,thanks

As far as I understand dreaming helps to process your day on many levels, experiences thoughts, emotions etc.

Definitely had some lucid dreams, sometimes I only know when I wake up. Other times I was in some sort of semi nightmare but knew it wasn't real and could wake myself up when I wanted to.

I've also experienced a state where I knew I was dreaming and decided I liked it and wanted to explore what would happen next. At times this failed and I woke up but other times I was able to stay in the dream, often resulting in a loss of the conscious thought that I was in a dream. So interesting when you think about it :-)

It sure is, it's also really weird how sometimes you can't run or move fast in a dream when you want to although other times I can move and do whatever I want. Very interesting what would cause that and how it works

we dream because when we sleep the body does not require much attention from the mind. that gives the mind the opportunity to explore where the body cannot bring it. the mind understands the importance of that opportunity and does not waste it.
