Moving Fast………My Actifit Report Card: August 18 2025

Things are moving fast! Granddaughter Olivia is already 3 days old! How did that happen?! Next thing you know, she’ll be 3 years old!! 😳 Whoa-hold the cart! Not just yet!!

Take a good look at the first picture and we will get back to it in a few. But-speaking of fast things…….

Star-Link has NOT disappointed us! Now I know some folks might consider this slow. However, in my neck of the woods, the ONLY choice has been Ziply Internet, other than a hotspot which doesn’t count. When Ziply tops out at a whopping 21 mbps, you can see why we are delighted with Star-Link! @silvertop got it permanently mounted today. We are pleased. 😄

What I’m NOT so pleased about is this:

There is a 79.78 parcel of land that went up for sale. It had a land stewardship sign on it. Apparently either the landowners didn’t do the stewardship correctly, or it was in name only. A company by the name of Nielsen purchased it specifically to log. Now, I understand that lumber is necessary and land is logged to get the materials needed. However, usually, they go up into the mountains on DNR land where nobody lives.

This is not the case here. This land is three quarters up our hilly road. The road base has been the joke of the neighborhood as there really is no road base! They sprayed tar, dumped road base rock on the tar and steam rolled it.

So now, these super heavy trucks, along with super heavy equipment, are running up and down our quiet, dead end road. Then there’s the sound of the chainsaws, the sound of air brakes, and the sound of compression brakes, which by the way, are outlawed in town, and the overall noise of trucks winding up to get up our hilly and steep road! Not quite the quiet country road any longer! 😡

Now, going back to the first photo; the company that owns that land is super responsible. They actually replant the trees they log! Here’s another shot of some of their land.

One last one…..

So going back to our situation-the Nielsen company is notorious for NOT replanting and for leaving all the logging debris behind. They don’t take care of the land. Some years ago, they came through on North Pass and did the same thing there. It was a beautiful stretch of thick, forested land that they mowed down and left the garbage behind. The current owners have diligently worked hard for well over 10 years, to clean it up and they’ve made great progress, but it is a far cry from what was, sadly.

As I said earlier, I get it; we need trees for lumber. Just don’t log in people’s residential areas!!

This is the road they’ve cut and if you look to the left of it, you can see the debris that’s been pushed off which they will leave.

Progress isn’t always forward. 😔
