Where Are The Locusts?!……..My Actifit Report Card: January 28 2024

Today was yet another cloudy and rainy day. It rained last night to the point of waking me up at least twice. My weather station said we had had over 3” of rain since midnight!🙀 That’s a lot of rain in a short timeframe and for already saturated ground from the 12” snowfall we had last week! We’ve had almost every disaster lately so I’m wondering where exactly are the locusts?!

We originally were going to church this morning, but our neighbor who is a tribal police officer had stopped by to ask a question about how to get touch with one of our neighbors. Then a few minutes later, he texted me to let me know they’d returned home in case things got worse down in the valley. Hmmmmm……..maybe we shouldn’t go. So we decided to stay home and tune in via Facebook and attend that way.

Later in the afternoon, we headed up the road for a hike. Jan came with.

The ground is beyond saturated! Everything is squishy and muddy. Even parts of the chip and seal road washed out! Those first two photos are as we approached the trailhead. We hiked up to the off grid cabin. On the way, discovered a tree that had its roots washed out and fell across the trail.

A bit further almost at the top, we found a mudslide.

Above that and about 15’ or so back, is the Upper Trail that we use to connect to Keith & Lynn’s land. I jokingly stated if it isn’t careful, the Upper Trail might become the Lower Trail, lol! It’s slid here before and probably will do so again.

After the hike, we headed into town to see how bad it was and discovered while there is a lot of groundwater flooding around, thus far, the river remains with minor flooding and no breaks in the levee just yet. Check out @silvertop’s post for pictures from Riverside Park. It’s literally on the Nooksack River and is a good way to view this river safely as long as you are aware of your surroundings.

It’s supposed to get close to 60 degrees the next couple of days which will impact the snow, melt it and add that water to the runoff. The rain is supposed to continue all week. We are not out of the flood warning yet for a while it would seem.
