You've Got The Power!.......My Actifit Report Card: November 12 2023

(Edited)

You’ve got the power-no, not really. 😏 Day two in the powerless saga of our road. So, despite the calls and despite the knowledge that our road was trapped with no way out, the utility company didn’t send anyone out to do anything about the 2’+ diameter tree blocking the road and the downed power lines until around 9 AM this morning. None of the residents on that side of the tree had any access out for 36 hours! It’s very fortunate that there was no medical emergency or fire as the emergency services would not have been able to reach them!

Around 10:20, we left to go to church (we were one of 3 total who could get out). We drove under a new telephone pole on a truck to get out. When church was done and we were headed home and arrived, a guy jumped out of a truck, and told us we couldn’t go forward! I told him, as did @silvertop, that our driveway was just to the left behind the truck blocking the road. Ironically, it took some explaining to get him to understand before he’d let us go. However, after telling us we could, I looked at him and grinned and told him he needed to move the orange cone first though. He looked at it, then at me and then back at it and said he could do that! It was kind of funny or maybe you needed to be there. We got home and into the driveway. 😁

So they replaced the pole but the old one is still ‘tied’ to it as the tree broke the old pole. Ziply Fiber will have to come move the phone lines I guess before they take the old pole down, as the phone lines have not been moved to the new pole. What a weekend! 😅

Midafternoon, we headed out for a hike up to Westergreen’s way. Jan came with.

They don’t call the trees Big Leaf Maples for no reason! Check out the size of these guys!

Some nice views….

Coming back down, we spied a lot of smoke. It almost seemed like some big was on fire!🔥

Turns out our neighbor was burning a small fire from a pile of sticks, bark and maybe leaves, but it wasn’t burning very well. Smoked like crazy though!

It has been an adventurous weekend, that’s for sure! Tomorrow finds me doing some work from home and training for the clinic. I also have a conference call with the software company rep. Then, there’s also 4 pounds of coffee that needs roasting and hopefully a hike squeezed in there, weather permitting. Whew! 😅

That’s all for today. May you have a blessed and lovely week ahead! 🙏🇮🇱🇺🇦

OMG you must have had a difficult time seeing those lovely trees being chopped down.

They weren't chopped; the wind storm we had took them down and the one was huge! It was a dead tree and everybody knew eventually it would come down. I just don't think any of us thought it would be quite this soon! I'm just glad no one was hurt when it came down. Thanks for stopping by @liquidocelotytt and have a lovely day!

I agree. There are times when a tree does need to be taken down if it's presenting a danger to property or life. We have had to have a few taken down because of that exact situation. On the other hand, we have an old growth cedar directly in front of the house and another on the back side that we've been able to date as old as 530 years old! No one will touch those trees as long as I live and if I could find a way to protect them once I am not of this world any longer, I would. I'm not sure there is really anything I can do to protect it if we don't own the land. I'll have to eventually look into it to see if there's anything I can do to protect it.

Thanks for stopping by and have a lovely day!

I had a big cleanup after the storm. I had large branches fall into my yard from my neighbors tree, too big for me to handle alone. My neighbor came over with a power saw and did quick work of them, my arms are still a bit sore cleanup. At least I have some nice evergreen boughs to begin my Christmas decorating.

That is perfect! A great start to your holiday decorating! Our cleanup unfortunately won't help decorating much, but there might be a bit of firewood available! Thanks for stopping by @kerrislravenhill, and have a lovely week!

It might be an interesting line of clothing!

The service was wonderful. It's hard when you leave the church you've been at for years, but we knew we would leave eventually as the pastor wasn't preaching truth according to the Word.

Anyway, this church that we have begun attending is very much alive with the Holy Spirit! I am happy to find a place that is just this way. Of course, I can pray for you; anything specific?

Take care and have a lovely day!

Hahaha, the driver couldn't just let you through!!! Couldn't think out of the box!!! It not like there were a hundred of vehicles behind you!
I like your photos very much, sis! Very pretty!!

Thanks sis! They are very big leaves!

Yeah, I'm not sure exactly what his deal was because I actually had to remind him twice to move the orange cone so I could pass! It was interesting.....🤗💞🌸 !LOLZ

Too bad. Did the government even rush to keep things going?

No, despite calls to the utility about the possible threat to life and property, they waited until Sunday afternoon to do anything about it. We have some elderly folk and 95% of the street was barricaded behind this tree and could not leave. If someone might have needed an ambulance, they might very well have died by the time any paramedics could have hiked up to where the are. If a fire broke out, well needless to say, it would have been a total loss for the same reasons. It wasn't a good situation at all!
