My Actifit Report Card: November 15 2021

Hey everybody and thanks for stopping by!

It has rained more than I have ever seen! We, meaning Whatcom County, is experiencing the worst flood , from what I’m understanding, in decades. I have an aerial shot of the town of Everson.

It’s unknown at this time whether my workplace is flooded. From pics sent to me by friends, it’s looking like a distinct possibility. They are saying it will be days before it recedes.

In the meantime, the city of Sumas, which is where our church is, has been flooded even worse. I’ve been told that since the church was built in 1913, it has never been flooded-that is, until today. The church has always been used as a hub for police and fire-rescue personnel, but today, all those folks were evacuated. It’s a sad day and right before the holidays too.

We had high winds as well so that has played havoc with trees and whatnot. Amazingly, we never lost power! The ‘widow maker’ tree we’ve been watching for a couple plus years, finally came down. I did not venture out for a hike, but @silvertop did. We’ve been wondering when it would go.

So, I paced and watched a movie on my phone while doing so. Afterwards, I got my new LED candle set with remote control, and set up a little bit of Christmas.

Tomorrow is supposed to bring more rain but I’m kind of hoping for a reprieve for all of the people affected by this flood. I am grateful that our home is up in the foothills of the Cascades.

On another related note, even sections of I-5 both north and south are closed due to mudslides in both directions.

As I’ve said to a few folks-mother nature tried to burn us this summer-now she’s trying to drown us as well! Crazy, crazy weather and circumstances!😳

Take care everybody and have a blessed evening! 👣🐑🛶🛶🛶☔️☔️☔️☔️💨💨💨🤗☕️😴

Dang EB, that's terrible. Hope you guys are OK up there on the hillside and the trees are all still standing😬

I love that stone wall and the whole stove-hearth with the lights and all. Beautiful!

Hey @summertooth! Thanks! We are dry being up in the hills. My place of work is not, being in the town and flooded, but I don't think it's too awfully bad. I will try to go tomorrow, but as of this morning, I am still cut off from town.

Take care and thanks for checking on us!

@silvertop went out for a HIKE?!!! He be cray cray.

I heard Mt. Sumas got just under 9 inches of rain. Insane.

I am glad to hear the widow maker came down without making any widows!

I hope your work managed to stay dry.

Yes @dfinney, he IS crazy! He hikes in the forest ALL the time when the wind is howling. I've done some and it makes me a bit uncomfortable, but he does it all the time.

We've been watching that tree for quite a while now, and actually would go one at a time quickly when we would go. A bit on the spooky side!

Work turns out was in fact flooded. It sounds like the carpet might be the main thing, but I'll know more tomorrow assuming the two road closures between me and work are gone. My neighbor tells me they are still shut as of this morning.

Thanks for checking on us. Take care!

Oh wow, that's some erratic weather. Unfortunately we will keep seeing this crazy weather patterns until we reduce green house gases and slow global warming. We need to plant more trees to absorb the excess carbon dioxide and burn less coal/fossil fuels; the planet is crying and reacting to human excesses. A few countries are overdoing it and making everyone else suffer. Let's hope some of the passed regulations will be followed, otherwise we are doomed and will keep seeing these extremes.
Anyways, I do hope the flooding subsides and people can get back to their normal activities. Thank you for sharing and happy mid week :}

Thank you; I will. I am headed to work in the morning as my workplace sustained flood damage. I will have to see if the roads are open; if so, I go; if not I go back home. I won't take any chances. Take care!
