"Our Little Secret" - A Story in 100 Words
"Why should I - even bother - digging - this deep?" He gasped in between grunts. "No one - ever - comes here. There won't - be a - report - or an - investi - gation!"
She smiled beatifically and said, as if to a small child, "You can never be too careful."
He paused digging to respond, "On a ranch this size, with no neighbors for miles? Besides, a hole this deep could easily fit TWO people!"
She silenced him with a look and he resumed. With the rhythmic sounds of the shovel on dry earth filling his ears, he never heard her whispered reply.
"I'm counting on it..."
A murder mystery in 100 words 😮? To think, I almost didn't bother posting today 🤣! I didn't write this with a clear idea of who they're trying to bury or why but it's pretty likely only one person will live to tell the tale (or just to eventually take the tale to their grave after a long life of skillfully feigning innocence). This is another one I'll think about revisiting one day.
Anyway, on to today's random words...
They were "bother" and "investigation".
