Our Daily Bread
All toil is striving
Or so they say
Labor our lives away
Surviving
Feeding our mouths
By the work of our hands
Paying others for services rendered
Our daily bread
Ripped with sweat from sands
Tilled under until they surrendered
Sustenance for our beleaguered head.
What is work?
Our curse by the sweat of our brow?
Our joy at taking dominion over wild lands?
Why should we shirk?
Why wallow like a sow?
Does nature reward idle hands?
All toil is striving
Or so they say
To make the world a better place
To raise our offspring
To reproduce
And fill the Earth with our race
No empty duty
Is our task
To sweat and struggle
To the very last.

This week's poem prompt from Blockchain Poets is "Labor". In honor of the US holiday of Labor Day, I figured I'd write a little of my perspective on work.
I'm not a big proponent of "labor day" per se. It was invented by people not of my political persuasion. But I happen to be a blue collar manual labor type, so I guess I can concede it's nice to be recognized sometimes.
What did I spend my Labor Day doing?
Working.

I can feel the anguish that is being expressed. And it's heartbreaking to think about how hard he's worked for so long. I am sure that is the situation of the world today, we live to work, and work to feed. Until we grow old.
