I was there
Through the dark
Sensing nothing
Not afraid
Perhaps I should have
Feared that dark
For monsters crept
And stalked
The trees betrayed
My safety sense
With branches reaching
To slap my face
I was devoured
Before I knew
The dark forest ate me
Bones and all.

It is true, as you said, that life is indeed like dark forests at times for we may walk blithely into situations not recognizing dangers or ignoring them until it's too late.
You are make of boldness, being in dard makes one to be scared, but you didn't feared the dark in any way.
