—————--------------------—————
Scene:
Dr. Bureaus office. Dr. Bureau is sitting across his desk from Smith and two agents. He looks calm, but is sweating slightly.

Smith: Dr. Bureau, it has come to our attention that you may be leaking confidential information about old Party programs and possibly running an illegal experimentation program. While we may be able to overlook the experiments for a price, the leaks are a different case…

Dr. Bureau: I assure you my work is completely above board. This is a simple pharmacy. I merely help the poor to live up to their potential. My lab work is purely medical in nature. I am helping to make the world a better place, “As above, so below.”

S: Still touting Party slogans, I see, despite your purge. You’re lucky you made it out alive, and even more lucky we let you operate down here.

He slides the folder across the table. Dr. Bureau looks at it and shrugs.

Dr.: What’s this?

S: This is what you sent to your old friends. Thankfully they are more loyal to the Party than you ever were and turned it in to my office. We don’t talk about old programs, it could break the Party if people knew. You know our disinformation policies….

Dr: How do you know it’s not a forgery?

S: Who would frame you? To our databases, you are dead, known only by the few of us who come down here once in awhile to keep things in check.

Dr: You mean those who come down here to seek certain services?

S: Watch yourself. I have the channels to keep my reputation. You are already dead.

Your old colleagues were surprised to hear from you. They were certainly not expecting you to ask for your old job back. Especially not with tales of immortal teenagers…

Dr: Well, not quite immortal…

S: Technicalities…

Dr: What’s your price?

S: No price. Just a promise. Cease the experiments, keep your mouth shut, keep your dirt on me to yourself and I’ll make this case go away…

On second thought… there is a price, turn the girls over to us. We may have use for them.

Dr: Those girls belong to Headmistress Matthews. I doubt she would want you to steal them.

S: She has already given me permission for one of them, Sarah Doe. Seems that one is a particular troublemaker. We will give her back the others, assuming they are not also immortal as you claimed in your messages.

Dr: (laughing) Yes, I’ve heard you met Sarah’s acquaintance. Are you sure you didn’t make all of this up just for an elaborate revenge?

S: Silence! I could bring down the full power of the Party on you. I am trying to give you leniency. Where are the girls?

Dr: Gentlemen, follow me to my lab.

Dr. Bureau leads the three men out of the room and down the wide corridor to his lab.

Scene:
Dr. Bureau’s lab. There are the same seven beds, but the girls are all sitting around a table playing cards. The doctor enters with the three agents.

Dr: Girls, I have some men here who would like to see you.
The girls look up nonchalantly from their game, then go back to playing.

Dr: See? I am merely testing a new sedation medication on them. They come in a bit high strung, but I send them back to the headmistress calm and collected.

Smith: I only see seven here. Where’s Sarah?

Dr: Well, Sarah is a special case, she has her own cell.

S: Take me to her, I’d like to take them all at once.

Dr: Schnitzel.

The orphans leap from their seats, two of them snap the neck of one agent, two others tackle the second agent and plunge a knife into his chest The remaining three tie Smith’s hands behind his back with power cables.

Dr: Lieben.

The orphans return to their card game calmly.

S: You’re playing a dangerous game, Doctor! The Party will avenge us.

Dr: I have my connections down here. We have ways to dispose of bodies. You really don’t think I was warned you were coming?

S: Matthews….

Dr: Now, Smith. Let’s go see Sarah.
