Today I want to retrace my steps by publishing a Digitall Project branded post, showing piece by piece the creation of a graphic design. For those unfamiliar with it, Digitall is my personal project based on the provision of services aimed at creating logos and other graphic designs in general. You can find more info on my profile, under the Digitall Tag
The logo that I created this time and which I will tell you about in the post is not associated with any really existing individual. This is simply a logo for a hypothetical activity concerning products/services relating to the world of meat.
The founding idea was born from an approach based on naming, which is the set of activities that allow you to give a name to anything that requires it (in this case, to a hypothetical activity). This idea made it possible to mix two different words in a somewhat playful way: the first, and fundamental, is the Italian word "bistecca", which indicates a usually full-bodied cut of beef; then came the intuition of joining an English word that would allow a similar pronunciation to be maintained and which conceptually represented the "embodied" idea (allow me the pun) from the first word. This second word is "big".

The definitive name of the project in question was born from the union of the two: Bigstecca.
Naming yes, then let's get down to work: let's draw the graphics.
At this point, I opened the graphics suite I use, the open-source Inkscape, and started drawing. The first element to create was the written part. I was looking for something simple, rounded, and geometric. Among the fonts I had, I found a handful of possible solutions, but in my opinion, the most appropriate was the one that used the Righteous font. You can see in the image below a preview of the basic writing.

Within the graphic design of a logo, the reproduction of the simple word that constitutes the name is called logotype. As in many other cases, the logo - as it was - didn't suit me. I wanted to add a more abstract shade by resizing the "big" component so that each letter was progressively larger than the previous one, and then leaving the rest of the writing intact. The last adjustment was a spatial balance: I recalibrated the spaces between the letters to my liking and brought the letters of the "stecca" component each to the same height. Below is a preview of the result.

The next step was the creation of a Pay-off, or call it also slogan: in this case, a simple "Only big slices" (in Italian, "only big slices ").

To create the pay-off, I used a much more rounded and thin font.
Logotype and pay-off finished: now it was the last part of the logo, the pictogram.
The pictogram is nothing more than an image, an icon, any symbolic object that we insert in our logo and which will be its representative. In my case, I wanted to insert a silhouette of a cut of meat: I searched for any image on the web that depicted it and used it as a starting point to draw the main contour lines. Having done this, I created a single black figure and moved it over the logo and pay-off, looking for the most correct position for me. In this case, the balance in the center did not correspond to a line passing through the center of the logotype, so I had to move the pictogram slightly (a few pixels, but it is a device that is often mandatory on asymmetrical designs).

As you saw from the image above, I also decided to change the colors: after designing the logo in black color, I explored a whole range of color variations. Few, being a hypothetical logo, but enough as an example purpose. I then duplicated the result you see in the image above and looked for two alternative variants that were suitable for a black background: one in the classic plain white, the other mixing white with two different shades of red. Below, the image with the result.

The most effective variant in my opinion is the one with the red pictogram and the white logo. What do you think about it?
I looked at the result: for our purposes, it was more than enough, however, things would have been different for an official logo: I liked the textual component enough, while the pictogram leaves me personally to be desired. In my opinion, maybe it's more like a dinosaur head than a steak.
Okay, I said to myself... that's how it went: it will be for the next one.
With this, I hope I have not bored you with an unpleasant reading. For those of you who have the idea of creating a logo and want someone who can help, I recently launched an initiative called Logobakery that might interest you. You can consult the introductory post CLICKING THE FOLLOWING LINK.
I greet you and look forward to seeing you in a future post.
