Derek had given up all hope after that. He saw the life slowly leaving his wife, saw how she could barely sit up to eat or drink, and how she struggled to speak. Every day tore at his heart, and it became hard to sit inside with her, to see her so sick. About four days ago, the doctor had visited to check up on his wife.
“She is still hanging on.” The doctor shook his head, “I didn't expect her to last this long.”
Derek sighed, “Sometimes I wish she didn't. She looks like she's in so much pain. Sometimes, I think she might be better off just letting go.”
The doctor set a hand on Derek's shoulder. He said ,while giving Derek's shoulder a small squeeze, “It is a struggle isn't it, but I have news.”
Derek turned towards the doctor, “News?”
The doctor stepped back, “There is still hope. The star that fell, apparently it is rumored to heal the sick.”
