Likely SPOILERS!!!

Chapters Read:

Part I: CEUNON

  • V. Dragonflight

Part II: GIL'EAD

  • I. Hostile Territory
  • II. Questions for a Cat
  • III. Barrow-Wights

These chapters were pretty outstanding. It's quite interesting how much Murtagh has gone through, his life is quite chaotic and scattered in many ways. His whole life has been essentially manipulated by others. He's been used as a pawn in every sense.

Murtagh is considerably weaker than Eragon and the elves at this point as he's lost access to the Eldunarí since the war ended. In addition, and much to my surprise, his understanding of magic is not as strong as I thought. If I had to put a number on it he seems to be about half as knowledgeable as Eragon? Maybe a bit more? He's respectably capable still, and his mind is quite strong.

Murtagh seems to be experimental and clever with magic as well, it seems that he is a fairly deep thinker. Funny enough I am actually seeing that Murtagh somewhat reminds me of Roran in a strange way, and funny enough that does make a bit of sense considering Murtagh and Roran are biological cousins! This is obvious I suppose but this is not a fact that is brought up often if ever. I think maybe it was mentioned at some point but perhaps very briefly.

Garrow is Roran’s father, and Selena is Garrow’s sister. Since Selena is the mother of both Eragon and Murtagh, that makes Murtagh and Roran cousins.

Perhaps this is why I do see similarities between Roran and Murtagh.

Murtagh has a natural mental toughness much like Roran. Roran went through so much and accomplished so much in a world of magical people while not being a magic user.

Sure, Murtagh lost some of his brute strength due to losing his Eldunarí, but he also lacked the knowledge that Eragon had throughout the first four main books. Pretty interesting. Galbatorix literally held back a lot of teachings and knowledge while he had Murtagh under control.

Thorn actually said he believes magic is potential. Well, I am beginning to think Murtagh might have the most potential. Time will tell. There's so many possibilities rushing through my mind now.

Murtagh has been essentially winging it a lot of his life, similar to Roran in many ways.

Murtagh and Thorn's adventure is currently thick with mystery. Him having to do this side quest to access the main quest is a smidge predictable but still fun and mysterious. Him having to retrieve Glaedr's scale was just seriously unfortunate. I'm so curious as to who enchanted the scale....

I have a major hunch that the fish in Isenstar Lake is a Nïdhwal...

While that would be a bit predictable I would be so excited because when I learned of the Nïdhwal in 'Inheritance' that was PEAK fantasy. Glaedr said they were cousins of the dragons but they basically couldn't be reasoned with. If Thorn and Murtagh have to slay one that scene will be absolute cinema, but I have not clue.

If it's NOT a Nïdhwal I'll be even more intrigued!

The werecats continue to have knowledge and be involved in crucial moments throughout this series...

This book has been outstanding!

Books are seriously way better than movies I tell you!
