"Inheritance" - Chapters 5-8 - My Thoughts
MANY Spoilers
Chapters Read:
- Aftermath
- Memories of the Dead
- What Is a Man?
- The Price of Power
These chapters were relatively peaceful especially after the chaos that was the first four chapters. Overall these first eight chapters have been interesting with an eerie sort of intensity. I think I like the book a lot already. I still feel the magic of when I first received this the day it was released. I only read it once also, as I've said a lot throughout my mini reviews. So yeah, combining the fact that receiving this was a special day all those years ago, only reading this once and the fact I can sense the ending approaching with every turn of the page, this is just exciting.
Yes these chapters essentially go deeper into the thoughts and feelings of everyone involved and how the war is making everyone feel. 'Aftermath' was pretty nice though, reading about Saphira and Eragon munching on some grub after such a massive battle was rather nice. I'm really glad Eragon isn't shy about eating meat anymore.
I'm curious to discover when and how Eragon and Saphira manage to get Glaedr to help them after he grieves. It's wild to think he is so close to losing his sanity.
It's also really interesting how for once in a miniscule way, the book sorta kinda references slightly what makes Roran tick, and sort of sheds light on how everyone definitely seems to notice he's built different. They refer to how Roran is not shy about taking down soldiers while many in the Varden are extremely reluctant to engage in violence unless throughly provoked. I found this detail very very interesting. Roran is intense man, and it's no surprise that so many gravitate towards him.
It's interesting that in these opening chapters that it's raining. I feel like there's been little mention of any sort of weather in most of these books, I recall some storms in Eragon but all in all there hasn't been much battling of the elements. I guess if I thought about it there has been some weather involvement here and there but yeah.
Lastly before I continue I'll mention again, EVERYONE is so scared and certain that if Galbatorix left Urû'baen that it would mean certain disaster. Then why hasn't Galbatorix done this? I can understand he wants to capture Eragon, but that seemingly would be easy as well for Galbatorix. Something smells really fishy about all this. The way he's spoken about it's like the guy can't be touched. They mention Galbatorix is arrogant, maybe that's what this is. Also, maybe the legend of Galbatorix is greater than the actual Rider if that makes sense. Hmmm. If he's not arrogant and whatnot I can't help but wonder if the guy is pulling strings or something? I think Murtagh gets involved somehow here as well. I guess ultimately Galbatorix's flaw is his arrogance. Just so interesting that everyone is certain Galbatorix can just take whatever he wants, I'm just baffled as to why he doesn't do this. I know at some point Eragon finds a source of weaponry himself eventually. I know these posts are dripping with spoilers but I'll still choose to not mention what this weaponry is just for fun I guess because that time will come soon.
Anyway, interesting chapters, gonna keep rolling!!
