SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

Chapters Read: 26-34

Man, I am shaken. I think a part of me was underestimating book two because well, it is so emotional and painful to read to be honest. A part of me didn't want to keep recalling the intensity. Now I see book two in a whole different way, and I absolutely enjoyed it greatly.

These last nine chapters were action packed and truly intense. The way these books can flip a switch and hit the gas is so good.

R.V. is just the worst. What a weirdo. An evil weirdo.

It's funny, as life goes on and changes, the words in a book remain the same. It's a strange thing to think about. Life is chaos, life is stressful but books will still be their same old self. It's a fascinating sort of power. I knew what was coming at the end of 'The Vampire's Assistant' and still it rocked me.

Pages remain the same, but as human beings life changes and we experience new things. In the years that have passed since I last read this, the words hit differently. It's like my old self is meeting my current self, and hopefully it can allow me to take the story and sort of understand it in a brand new way, going forward. That sounds weird but I can't really explain it properly. It is what it is.

Sam saved Darren's life several times, and in the end Sam's heroics cost him his life. Such a brutal way to go by the wolf-man. Darren was dreading his new half-vampire life and dreading having to ever taste human blood. But funny enough, drinking from Sam was maybe the best thing for Darren. Darren said to Sam that he owes him from when Sam saved his life in that abandoned building. When Darren drank from Sam's dying body, he did save Sam's life, kind of. As the lore goes when a vampire does this, a part of the person's spirit lives on within the vampire.

Interestingly, Darren was infinitely stubborn to ever drink from a human, despite the fact it would eventually kill Darren. Since he kept refusing blood, Darren himself was super weak and on death's door when the wolf-man escaped and eventually killed Sam. When Darren made the choice to drink from Sam, Sam may have saved Darren's life too, AGAIN! Darren was willing to literally die before ever tasting human blood, but the idea of keeping Sam's spirit alive forces Darren to finally accept his new life as a half-vampire.

Dude, that is insanely insanely deep. I never even thought of this when I first read this.

THEN the lore gets MORE NUTS. So, when Sam dies, and I already had shed a few tears, who comes to help dig Sam's grave? But HARKAT MULDS. Before we knew who Harkat even was!! When this realization hit me, buddy let me tell you I cried for a few seconds more. Holy crap. This moment is absolutely irrelevant on the first read. Knowing the whole story that moment hit WAYYYYYY harder. Unbelievable.

I am starting to think this series was meant to be re-read. I wonder if Darren ever recalls this detail or if this is just a charming detail in the book that just stands alone forever in that moment....

It was super cool at the end when Darren felt the urge to have pickled onions, Sam's favorite food. Warms the heart big time.

Bravo man. I always thought the Little Person that helps dig the grave was incredibly random. It's almost making me rethink a lot of other things about the series.... Crazy. I'll keep those theories to myself for now.

Anyway, this series is really cooking now and I am so intrigued about what lore I will unearth next. My brain feels like mush. This series really smacks you across the face when you least realize it. Incredible.

On to book three now. This should be interesting, I always remembered book three fondly.
