Captain Marvel (2019) review/thoughts

Like I've said these movies are personal reviews, my opinion.

Captain Marvel fundamentally was a good movie. Pretty average though, nothing that set it apart other than the fact the hero was a woman.

It basically felt like Marvel's version of Wonderwoman or something. Again, I never read any of the comics.

There were good guys, bad guys, betrayal, redemption.

The movie was 'woke', but not as bad as I thought it could have been, so that's cool.

I could sense the hate for modern America and crap. The symbology, the references. Not even with the sexes, as one might expect with a superhero movie with the woman as the hero. But the target of the wokeness seemed to be toward literally America. Borders, immigrants, wars, her side were really the bad guys etc. She realizes the enemies are not the enemies, they are just like everyone else like you and me. Coexist man. Peace man. They really took a lot of pages from the corny Avatar movie, with the blue people. In Captain Marvel though, the blue guys were BAD, not good like in Avatar. Captain Marvel introduces green guys to keep it fresh I guess.

I'm sure there's an internet psychologist or politician just drooling to analyze my logic and thoughts. LOL.

The movie itself was innocent enough though. Fun and exciting overall. It was nice to see a woman as a superhero, she was cool. Although, I fear she may have the Superman complex as a character, she had weaknesses in the beginning, but it seems after she broke out of what was restraining her, she went to God level. She seemed untouchable.

While it may be boring she is untouchable, it is kind of badass too. She was just catching bodies. Flying around, shooting magical energy out of her. She is a damn freight train it seems.

It was nice to see Fury again, did he die in a previous film? I can't recall. But I know I haven't seen him in awhile.

The cat being an alien was pretty hilarious in this one.

I liked that it takes place in the 90's. Literally the year I was born HA. While I can't totally relate, I can mostly. Songs, styles, etc all were very familiar. I loved that Blockbuster had a little cameo too. Crazy that movies more and more are making ME feel old. Time is always reminding me how fast it's moving...

I am pretty sure Captain Marvel plays a big role in Endgame so I am curious to see how it all goes down. Her former partner mentioned that her blood was transfused with the alien race she was forcibly adopted by, without her knowing. I wonder if her non-human blood will play a role.

Overall it was a solid, sort of normal superhero movie. Basic, but nice. No major complaints. An intriguing prequel in a lot of ways.

Now, onto Endgame, I've heard a lot of good things about this one, I'm excited to see how it all goes down!

Yes, to me it was painfully average… the timing was awful, coming out of something as great and different as Infinity War.

I agree completely!!! They needed some drama, something to spice it up, give her a real challenge! Sooooo predictable

Yes, it just felt like the film was missing a key ingredient I can't put my finger on. Really sucks that she was untouchable basically, I'm about to watch Endgame, I'm curious to see how she is vs Thanks so much for commenting!

I hated this movie. She's too powerful and I feel as though any superhero needs to at least have some sort of weakness. I thought as though Marvel was attempting to take advantage of the metoo movement or needed to have more powerful female characters due to social pressures.

They may have actually been secretly laughing in the board room

  • People are complaining that we don't have enough powerful women in our stuff
  • Ok, we'll give them a woman that is basically in "god mode" all the time

Omg 100 percent I agree. Like I am all for a female superhero, but they really rushed this one. Hahahaha your comment is perfect. It was eye roll worthy for sure. Nothing set this movie apart at all. It was painfully obvious they were pushing the me too vibes. Women are flawless beings, men just create wars and do evil LOLOL. Ridiculous! I doubt I will watch this movie again lol

Well, End Game is one of the best action movies I have seen in recent years, so you will probably love that one. Regarding Captain Marvel, I think it was an OK movie, but far from the best that Marvel can offer. It was good to learn about this extremely powerful superhero, and personally, I didn't know much about her so I found her backstory interesting. After watching Endgame the multiverse will be waiting for you :D

Endgame was great!! I made my post about it a little bit ago, I loved Cap's ending. Sad about Ironman but I wasn't overly surprised. Thanks so much for commenting!!

I saw this in a 4D theater. That was the first and last 4D movie I ever went to. It was visually appealing but it was right at this point that I started to feel that Marvel is just making movies for the sake of making movies (money) without really trying to develop anything unusual or inventive on the creative side of things.

That's so true, perfect summary. The low-effort is likely why I never watched any Marvel films till now, 2021. Also, probably why I always enjoyed the Dark Knight trilogy more than a large portion of the Marvel Universe. Eh, maybe they will improve in the future, who knows. Thanks a lot for stopping by :)
