Beginning my re-read of "Inheritance" | Chapters 1-4
MANY Spoilers
Ah yes, the time has finally come as I begin this epic re-read of 'Inheritance' the final book in 'The Inheritance Cycle'. It's been literally about 14 years since I've read this. The very year it came out. I have high expectations for this as at the time I ranked this as my favorite book in the series after finishing it. I am a sucker for a good finale what can I say? I'm curious if I'll still like 'Inheritance' as much this time around as I did all those years ago.
What a cool cover!
I've lost so many books over the years but I'm glad this wasn't lost. I feel this way for many reasons, one of which is that this is a hard cover book. I don't have many of those anymore. It's quite convenient and nice reading out of one I must say. Paperbacks are awesome too don't get me wrong, but the sturdiness is really pleasant.
Indeed this copy of 'Inheritance' is a First Edition! I am so lucky to have it. I received it literally on November 8th, 2011 the very day 'Inheritance' was released. I was anticipating this book for YEARS. I was watching for articles and videos of any sort with news regarding this book. The day I got it man, I was too pumped. One of my mom's final gifts to me. I will never forget seeing it on the living room table. Wild how the time has passed and everything that has transpired since leaving. It was only a few short months later and well, life happened. I'm curious as to what memories will be unlocked when I read this. Crazy how memory works. Re-reading this will be an experience.
This book will 100 percent be passed to my son one day. All of them will frankly. I'll have to buy a lot in case I have other kids LOL.
Chapters Read:
- Into the Breach
- Hammerfall
- Shadows on the Horizon
- King Cat
'Inheritance' starts off with a BANG. Saphira is critically wounded by some magical new dragon killing weapon and then Roran is straight up semi buried under literally rubble from a wall collapsing. I guess he got lucky since he was standing under some beams or whatnot but dude, Roran is STILL built different. I swear he's one of my favorite characters ever without question. The guy has his own unique set of powers. I don't use the word powers lightly either. He's got the 'it' factor. He's stupid focused, stupid determined, stupid clever, and just a well rounded individual. Stupid tough. Seemingly a great athlete. Like this guy is a walking swiss army knife. The guy cannot be stopped.
But yeah, right off the bat Eragon nearly loses two immensely important people in his life in what is a pretty intense Siege of Belatona. Crazy!
The intensity is followed by a comical, and uniquely mysterious and unexpected scene of werecats approaching and joining the Varden. The werecats' King, Grimrr Halfpaw is probably the funniest character in such an odd unintentional way. The way he and his fellow werecats seriously dislike Angela, and then when they say state their utterly hilarious yet cool terms to join the Varden, it was just such epic storytelling I was grinning and laughing so much, I was just amazed. They basically required armor, some good food, and a padded cushion next to the new King's throne should they defeat Galbatorix. Like that is such a chill set of terms I was just amazed LOL.
Anyway, these first four chapters had it all. Lots of action, new content and avenues for this new installment, mixed with some great interesting humor.
I am really looking forward to this book. The pages smell so nice.
One day I'd love a sizeable library of my own.
