Twitter alternative Hive already had to shutdown its app to fix critical security issues!

Having a competing HIVE dominating the news headlines with negative stories is both good and bad for HIVE!

It's good for our HIVE, and bad for their HIVE, but it's also bad for our HIVE when the news tries to make it look like our HIVE just to try to confuse people.
The worst thing is when I search hive blog news, all I get is a bunch of news about HIVE Social. If you haven't heard HIVE Social is a "New Twitter Competitor" with security issues, now generating negative press for HIVE. Even though this hive doesn't have anything to do with us, it's still out there slandering the name in the same social media space. Could this latest news about HIVE Security even be part of the reason why the price of HIVE (our coin) went down?

The latest drama with HIVE, HIVE SOCIAL has security flaws!

As of the time of writing this article, I'm not sure if their security flaws have been fixed, quite frankly I don't want to know because I'm not planning on signing up to find out.

According to researchers HIVE Social (not to be confused with us) has some very severe security holes that can be exploited, leaving everyone who was using it vulnerable to hackers. This is such a bad flaw that HIVE Social had to shut down their servers until the problem is fixed. Source:TechCrunch

CNN seems to be the worst writer out there when it comes to HIVE headlines.

I don't know if CNN did this on purpose, but by mentioning HIVE in a headline (at the bottom of this image) with "Gain Steam" it almost seems like a jab at us since we were from steemit. Since the story isn't about us I think the headline is in poor taste and was chosen purposely just to antagonize us Hiveans.
Screenshot 2022-12-05 at 5.39.28 PM.png All this bad news containing the name HIVE and social media could spell trouble for our brand! CNN should have to refer to HIVE Social (The Full Name when writing about them)

I think CNN and all the other news agencies know exactly what they are doing, they are trying to make us look bad without implicitly saying anything about us.

It kind of feels like all the media news writers are ghosting our HIVE every time they make a story about the other HIVE without ever mentioning a thing about us. Why would our site not be as viable of a Twitter competitor as HIVE Social? It seems to me like we are way bigger, more robust, and substantial, and have tighter security than HIVE Social, and technically we have already won the battle since our site never goes down. haha

It seems like every one of these stories could easily have mentioned how our HIVE is actually doing a better job at solving security, censorship, and decentralization than the now flailing security-plagued HIVE Social that may or may not be fixed yet, but no writer ever would dare to mention us in their HIVE articles, because for some reason we don't really exist! lol

So choosing a proper name and rather a unique name before it shapes the brand value over time is paramount. The name in itself has a subtle effect, because in the first instance regardless of what it is, it hits our mind and assesses its acceptability by the name. Then it goes onto explore other finer details associated with the project. The only question I would ask-- which one comes first Hive social or Hive Blockchain. If Hive social has come first, then I would say we should have had chosen a better than back in 2020. If not Hive has come after Hive social, then we could do nothing in that case.

It says they were here first, but I just didn't remember seeing their app until this year. I wonder what would happen if that hive cloned up our HIVE and created their own hive coin, would we be in big trouble or what?

It's the same thing the bolsheviks did in russia with communism, they steal the name and then run it into the mud so that no normie would ever conceive of adopting it.
You can bet this isn't the last bad news we hear from hive social.
I do think it is funny that they did to us what we did to hive blockchain.
You can say that they weren't social media, but they are blockchain.
There were better names for us to take, imo.

Time for another hard fork with a new name that is original.

That would be quite a big job, don't you think? while it might affecting us with the brand, but doing a hardfork for the new names might need a lot of discusion.

It sure would be a huge job, very risky too. If anything like that were to happen we would need to have the whole community work together toward a unanimous decision. Another name change does seem a little rash, however, I think we can still manage to succeed in keeping our name the way it is despite the recent brand confusion out there. Thanks for the comment.

Why a name change would be rash and a huge very risky job?

After all, if a giant and well known "social network" as facebook changed its name to Meta that easy... ¿Why our Hive couldn't change its name to one more unique and appropriate?

I just thought it might be risky if we chose the wrong name and it flopped. Out of all the millions of names out there that aren't taken, finding the right one is like threading a needle through a haystack.

I said huge job just because of how many references to HIVE we would have to change, seeing as there are still tons of leftover references to steem in our code, adding yet another change would be tedious, but definitely be doable, or maybe we could just get ai to do it for us.

You're right, Facebook changed to Meta with a smooth transition, didn't help their stock any yet though.

I guess the best thing would be to have a contest or something like a giant brainstorming event to get some good ideas flowing.

Here are some ideas for names, since Mastadon is so popular, maybe we should look into other Exquisite unique creatures from the past for a name.

Some food for thought...
Maybe something like Cloudina which has a nice ring to it, making us the earliest and most abundant fossil creature network, kinda like the blockchain.

Or maybe Liopleurodon, has a nice mastadon sounding name lol

or Deinotherium

Good luck getting past the gate keepers that 'only hold <1%'.
It might fly, presuming a good enough name was offered up.

Yeah, sometimes It feels like we're in our own little world here. I invested in HIVE because I thought I found an untapped gem.
