The timeworn clock on the wall pulsed its cadence, its incessant ticking resounding through the cramped quarters. Its regular beat had grown familiar to Jacob, who often spent long intervals ensconced in the tattered armchair, his ideas running astray. As the seconds trickled into minutes culminating into hours, the clock's sound assimilated with the ebb and flow of his life.

But one day, amidst the common ticking, a novel noise interrupted the silence. Initially, it was gentle, a slight whisper that Jacob had difficulty placing. He knitted his brows and scoured the chamber, attempting to discover the root of the sound. All was tranquil and noiseless, except for the timepiece, still keeping its reliable beat.

As the hours wore on, the obscure auditory became increasingly more decipherable. It seemed the walls of the room contained a secret, gradually divulging it to Jacob. He meticulously looked into each small corner, displaced furniture, and thumped the walls, striving to solve the conundrum.

One evening, as the last rays of daylight danced in the room, Jacob stumbled upon the source of the unidentified noise. He located a shallow split camouflaged along the wall, tucked away behind a bookshelf. Stoked with excitement, he extended his hand and felt the crack. He placed his ear near it to hear what he thought must be on the other side.
