The audience should not be a source of distraction. Keeping your gaze fixed on a particular location in the arena can help you stay focused and avoid becoming distracted by the reactions of the audience.
Keep in mind that not everyone in your audience will be an expert on the subject. So don't be scared to make a mistake, and if you do, don't be embarrassed to fix it.

The speeches should be viewed as opportunities for growth and learning. Always be receptive to feedback and criticism, both favorable and negative.
There are also public speaking classes and seminars for those who wish to better their speeches and presentations, you might just attend and build up your ability. These programs will help you develop communication skills and overcome your phobia of public speaking.
