Tyrese Maxey and V.J. Edgecombe make a statement in historical season opener in Boston! | Home debut vs Hornets tonight

Life's been pretty hectic but the weekend is here and I can think of simpler things like basketball. The state of sports does seem a bit sketchy these days with the gambling scandals going on but meh, I don't think the whole scene is rotten totally or anything. Hopefully.

Wednesday's season opener was a pretty historic one AND they got the win.

Rookie V.J. Edgecombe made seriously eye opening franchise history when he scored 34, the most by a rookie since WILT CHAMBERLAIN IN 1959!!

Tyrese Maxey tied the franchise record for points in a season debut with 40!! The last to do this was Hal Greer in 1969!

What a night. The Sixers were tested throughout, it literally took all 48 minutes to get the job done and they had to stage a pretty profound comeback. Really fun stuff!

Sure the Celtics didn't have Jayson Tatum but meh, they were at home and it was their season opener against the SIXERS, a big rival.

Meanwhile the Sixers didn't have Paul George or Jared McCain. Joel Embiid played 20 minutes and looked slow and it's still a massive question if he's even at the same level he was a few years ago. On top of that the Sixers are coming off of one of their worst seasons in franchise history soooo yeah. Tatum being out doesn't really seem like the greatest excuse.

But yeah I'm really liking what I see from V.J. Edgecombe and I have a gut feeling he could be the team's best player eventually if he's already dropping 34 in Boston. He really looks different in my opinion. He has a legit presence on the court.

But as I often say with rookies, most teams don't really respect rookies as much as they should. The examples are frequent across pretty much all sports. So to an extent I'm unsure if the Celtics really knew what Edgecombe was all about. I'm sure next game there will be adjustments.

Can't forget about Tyrese Maxey now though, he's established and still rolling in his own career. He was on fire Wednesday and while I have a hunch Edgecombe could be better it doesn't mean Maxey still can't be great. Also, it's just a hunch. I've been wrong MANY MANY times in my life.

At the end of the day I hope they have a good relationship and push each other to greatness.

Tonight is a new test, and if they end up losing to the Hornets after a nice win, that would be a bit depressing LOL. LaMelo Ball seems like he's not the guy many thought he was. He isn't bad, just ok. He reminds me of like Rajon Rondo if Rondo was a better scorer. Not bad, but without help I don't think Ball can really do much with the Hornets.

Still, that was a fun way to start the year. I'm sure Philadelphia is going to be really excited tonight! Maybe an Edgecombe jersey could be on its way for my son from Santa.
