Sixers are in Boston for their season opener tonight!
Well, after many months basketball is BACK. It's definitely a festive feeling. The World Series takes place Friday, football season is really in the thick of it now, Halloween is around the corner. Life has been stressful but, things always feel a little better when you try to appreciate the little things like that. When they all trickle in together at once like they do at this time of year, it makes life feel pretty decent.
While the Sixers haven't played in awhile it feels like the NBA Finals only happened yesterday. I really enjoyed The Finals.
Anyway, the Sixers are on their own journey to maybe shock the world and win the Finals themselves in 2026! It seems unlikely when considering how last year went but, oddly enough if this team can stay healthy it's not out of the question.
Joel Embiid seems healthy but he's a mystery in many ways, you never know if he's really healthy anymore. BUT if he can stay healthy that's a major plus. And since the Sixers stunk it up last season they lucked out and drafted a really solid prospect in guard V.J. Edgecombe. I really like what I see from him! They also drafted skilled big man Johni Broome. If Embiid has trouble staying on the floor and/or has a lot of rest nights, I'm hopeful Broome can develop nicely. Adem Bona has also shown competence as a big man.
Also, the Sixers did sign Quentin Grimes to a one year deal and hopefully we can see once and for all how really good he is or isn't. Last season he had some excellent performances but, the team was essentially out of it and the team was generally deflated and injury ridden to a huge extent. Grimes ended up seeing huge minutes in a lot of losses and down the stretch a lot of teams weren't really taking the Sixers seriously in general. With Embiid back and hopefully the team playing in games that matter, we'll see if Grimes can compete in higher stakes games in maybe a playoff race where teams are really going all out. If Grimes is as good as he looked to be last year, then that could be a massive weapon for the Sixers.
The depth at the guard position could in theory be very good in Philadelphia especially once Jared McCain returns! If Tyrese Maxey somehow improves beyond the star level talent he already is, LOOK OUT. With Embiid as the centerpiece this could be interesting. I have no clue what to think of Paul George but he does offer experience and a degree of skill of course. But I have little hope for him at this point if I'm being honest.
There's a ton of what ifs and maybes on this team, but it's juiced with potential. Something has got to give on this team I feel.
Also, the Sixers are going to be wearing these BEAUTIFUL throwback jerseys for 14 home games and 6 road games this season!!!
CORE MEMORIES UNLOCKED 🔓 PURE NOSTALGIA 💫
This jersey may be one of my earliest sports memories ever. So glad they're back! Lord knows why they ever left. These are sharp, iconic, full of personality.
