Silly NFL Narratives: The QB position is evolving

Mobile quarterbacks are great don't get me wrong. But I'm just getting really sick of mainstream sports media spazzing over the fact that the QB position is changing dramatically or something.

Mobile QB's have always existed. John Elway, Steve Young. Both mobile guys that won championships and played at a high level for many years. I could name more guys like Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson but I think you guys know what I'm saying.

Mainstream sports media wants to act like they've never seen a QB that can also run when they NEED to. It's just really annoying and sort of disrespects past mobile QBs.

But you know of all the QB's I mentioned, not one of them would you consider them a 'scrambling' QB. Never has a purely scrambling QB won a Lombardi at least none that I can remember. I can't recall a single scrambling QB that had a super elongated career of sheer greatness. Let alone achieving dynasty status.

Even Patrick Mahomes I would not at all even close to consider a scrambling QB. He's a great QB that can run if he decides but it's not like he is consistently out here killing teams and just running through defenses week in and week out. Honestly that would be a major insult to even ever presume that he did. The dude is a tremendous QB with a cannon for an arm.

You know why Mahomes is great? Because he does his job as QB and PASSES the ball to receivers.

While I'm at it, let me enlighten you all as to who won the last Super Bowl, shall we? T

Tom Brady. At the age of 43. One of the least mobile QB's ever. Oh and he has more Super Bowl rings than any human, ever. Literally more than any other franchise, ever.

But the media loves to continue to talk about how the position is evolving.

WHERE THOUGH?!

The last 20 Super Bowl Winning QB's are as follows:

2021: Tom Brady
2020: Patrick Mahomes
2019: Tom Brady
2018: Nick Foles
2017: Tom Brady
2016: Peyton Manning
2015: Tom Brady
2014: Russell Wilson
2013: Joe Flacco
2012: Eli Manning
2011: Aaron Rodgers
2010: Drew Brees
2009: Ben Roethlisberger
2008: Eli Manning
2007: Peyton Manning
2006: Ben Roethlisberger
2005: Tom Brady
2004: Tom Brady
2003: Brad Johnson
2002: Tom Brady

How many of those QB's would you consider mobile? Maybe a handful? How many would you consider scrambling? None.

A quarterback's job is to throw the ball to other players. It always will be. If a QB is always thinking about running in the back of his head, he'll never develop as a passer.

Even if a passionate person wanted to argue that the position is evolving, like I said, don't act like that's some recent revolutionary development. There have been plenty of good QB's in the past that have been able to run a bit. But only a bit and as a very last resort, most of the time.

Pocket passers still matter, a lot. They always will.
