Phillies lose third straight in series opener vs Diamondbacks | Taijuan Walker on the mound today

Well, the Phillies looked good early yesterday, I was feeling pretty optimistic for a minute. In the first inning the Phillies struck first and took a swift 4-0 lead. Bryce Harper doubled for an RBI, then Brandon Marsh hit a sweet three-run homer. Brandon Marsh was hitting cleanup which is certainly unusual but it worked out well! I say it's unusual simply because it hasn't happened historically, but Marsh has been looking good to start the season and I guess after two straight games of getting shutout, the team wanted to reward Marsh and simply try something new to get some runs going. Clearly it was a good idea, if Marsh keeps it up he'll be in All-Star conversations!

But then, disaster struck. Jesús Luzardo was cruising through the game until the fifth inning. The Diamondbacks recorded five hits and walked once on their way to scoring five runs. Just a brutal meltdown.

I can't blame it all on Luzardo of course. While four runs is ok, the Phillies ideally should have done more especially since they scored so early. The Phillies couldn't do squat for eight straight innings. Rookie Justin Crawford hit a beautiful triple with two outs in the bottom of the ninth but Trea Turner couldn't bring him in to tie it unfortunately.

So no, the Phillies didn't get shutout, but somehow they managed to lose in a very similarly depressing fashion, by blowing a 4-0 lead. Ugh. They are now officially under .500 at 6-7.

Taijuan Walker, who has looked mostly rough so far in 2026, takes the mound today. Walker is on the verge of being cut or sent down if he continues to decline like he has been.

It's early yes, but things are just feeling a bit spooky at the moment. The season is officially 8% complete. Kyle Schwarber and Alec Bohm are two guys in particular I'd like to see play better.

Let's see how it goes! Pretty early game today, not bad. I'll try to catch most of it but I do have some important things to do today. But I should be able to watch and/or listen to it.

At the end of the day, it's always nice to enjoy some Phillies baseball.
