Phillies lose series to Diamondbacks... | Cubs in town tonight with Cristopher Sánchez on the mound
Well yesterday was mildly strange but it almost ended up working out for the Phillies. Andrew Painter didn't start the game but oddly enough he ended up entering the game in the third inning and actually pitched well. He got through five innings and only allowed a run. Hey, I'll take it. It ended up being a fairly quality outing even if it was a bit unorthodox.
The Phillies were in solid position to get the victory but the Diamondbacks were their scrappy selves and kept chipping away. José Alvarado pitched pretty poorly out of the bullpen and gave up two runs quick, fast, and in a hurry.
But again, the Phillies' pitching is not the issue on this team right now. It's absolutely the offense. They are devastatingly average or a shade below average on a consistent basis. They only scored three runs yesterday and once again their runs all came in a singular inning. It's like they give us fans hope of a strong looking offense and then promptly fall asleep. It's mind blowing and getting a bit depressing.
The Phillies are back under .500 and have lost another series. But they still have plenty of games of course. It's a fresh series and they are still at home. Cristopher Sánchez is on the mound today, Zack Wheeler's return to the mound approaches around the corner. There's some hope. It is what it is.
I still believe in the boys. It could be worse. But after tonight's game the season will be nearly ten percent through. This 162 game season can lull teams into believing there's plenty of time. There is until there isn't!
Lets go boys!
