2021 NFL Power Rankings Part 1 - Tier Three Teams - #32-#22

My excitement for this NFL season to start is just too much to deal with. So what better way to handle all of this extra energy, and kill some time, than to make some Power Rankings, according to me.

Just made this list with my gut. I follow the league pretty closely, no need to make formulas and all of that extra stuff a lot of other folks do.

I just thought about how teams did last year, how they finished towards the end of the year, how offseasons and drafts were, I thought about coaching and quarterbacks and defense.

Teams in my 'tier three' category have got like a zero to fifteen percent chance of making the playoffs, in my opinion.

#32 Houston Texans

Not much really needs to be said here. Their QB situation is wild in regards to Deshaun Watson and his unwillingness to play and his recent legal troubles.

I will say they somewhat partially lucked out. They got a decent quarterback as a band-aid in Tyrod Taylor. But considering they could only accomplish a 4-12 record with Deshaun Watson at QB last season, it's fair to say that it doesn't look like the 2021 Houston Texans are going to accomplish much.

The team has decent running backs. But they have a new downgrade at QB, a new head coach, a poor receiving core, and a below average defense.

#31 Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles come in at #31. I just don't see it with this squad yet, mostly because of their season from last year and continued questions at QB and at WR. I'm really not a believer in Jalen Hurts right now.

If the team puts in either back-up QBs Joe Flacco or Gardner Minshew early in the season, maybe they could manage to be a bit more competitive in a weak NFC East Division.

#30 Jacksonville Jaguars

Highly touted QB prospect, and number one overall pick Trevor Lawrence has looked pretty good in pre-season, but it would take a herculean effort to take a 1-15 team from last year, into real relevancy.

They've got a new coach in Urban Meyer, but he just gives me weird vibes honestly. He's got zero NFL experience, and he just seems weird.

#29 Atlanta Falcons

It feels weird putting the Falcons this low on the list, but their play in recent years gives me no options I'm afraid. I have them this low because despite having a decent QB and some decent receivers, they still couldn't find ways to win.

They seem to make the same mistakes repeatedly. They had a good defense once and it helped get them to a Super Bowl. But other than that season, they never seem to have that great of a defense. Or running backs. They rely on QB Matt Ryan a lot, who is really just aging a bit at this point.

I just don't feel like this team has too much momentum.

#28 Detroit Lions

This team has got work to do, no doubt about it.

They have a lot of areas that they could probably work on.

But they do have a new coach that seems passionate. They've got a new pretty average QB in Jared Goff whose seen a lot in his career, and is surely very motivated because of the sour way he left the Los Angeles Rams. Not only that, but nearly everyone in the media is basically writing him off as a future career QB2. Basically Goff has got a lot to prove.

I like their running back in DeAndre Swift.

It doesn't look too great in Detroit, but who knows.

#27 New York Jets

No doubt the Jets stunk it up last year, but I am a believer in rookie QB Zach Wilson. He looks confident, and plays confident. He's got a great arm and great accuracy, he's athletic on top of it.

The Jets also acquired a solid receiver in Corey Davis in the off-season who should help the young QB and receiving core a lot.

#26 New York Giants

I was low-key a big fan of the Eli Manning era Giants. I wonder if future generations will really appreciate how cool and interesting those teams were. Eli was overall an average QB but for two seasons he, along with a lot of great teammates, messed around and won two Super Bowls, both times kind of randomly, ESPECIALLY the first.

But this is about this season coming up, and I don't see the Giants being too much of a threat.

QB Daniel Jones is iffy but has moments. The team has got a good running back, ok pass catchers and an ok defense. They have a good coach.

A lot of things gotta go right, but this team could be ok especially with an extra playoff spot and weak division. Players need to improve too.

#25 Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals and Giants are similar, but I believe the Bengals have the superior QB in Joe Burrow and play in a MUCH tougher AFC North Division. So with those factors taken into account, I believe the Bengals are in better shape than the Giants.

#24 Chicago Bears

nfl-chicago-bears-team-logo-2-300x300.png

The Bears were a playoff team in 2020-21, just barely, but they were. The team has got a top ten or even top five defense.

If the Bears can manage to get their QB situation in order, then this team could be pesky.

#23 Denver Broncos

nfl-denver-broncos-team-logo-2-300x300.png

The Broncos are a pretty well built team overall. They actually don't have that many major weaknesses if the team can stay healthy. They just need a good QB.

They have two, so-so QB's and they are going with the more experienced and slightly better Teddy Bridgewater, instead of the still young Drew Lock.

You know exactly what you're gonna get with Bridgewater. He is a pure modern day game manager.

The Broncos have a good defense. Bridgewater has proven he can win games with a good defense when he was a Minnesota Viking five or six years ago. Maybe it was even seven, who knows.

But yeah the Broncos could be a mild surprise in 2021, could.

#22 New Orleans Saints

nfl-new-orleans-saints-team-logo-2-300x300.png

The final tier three team that just couldn't quite make it into tier three, is the New Orleans Saints.

I believe the Saints have been overrated these past two seasons. Now the team is starting a significantly less talented QB in Jameis Winston. Their occasional two-QB system thing they do will probably be less effective as a result.

I don't know I just don't get that good of vibes from New Orleans.

That wraps it up for part one of my 2021 Power Rankings. There may be some surprises!! These are just my opinion.

Stay tuned for part two and three, which should be out before Thursday's game!
